Hi, just received my 1420 and didn't really notice this scratchy, pulsing noise it's making until now. (It's 4am in the morning - can't sleep) Just wondering, is this normal? o_O What the, it's stopped... Aaaaahh! It's messing with my head. :(

Ohs.. It only makes the noise when it's reading data... is it possibly the hard drive?

not really sure how "scratchy" this noise is. i mean mine makes a noise when the HDD is being accessed; that is normal.

Hmm... I'll describe the 'scratchy' noise like... imagine a bug is inside your lappy. Lolz.

Vista should keep your hard drive busy for the first week or so learning for super-fetch, if that's what you're hearing.

Maybe it's actually the whole soundcard/mobo/c2d static issue.

Hmm... its not making that high pitched noise. However at 00.09 and at the end of the video there was that little noise. Its something like that..

I have the same thing going on, the noise coincides with the hard drive working. It is kind of annoying, but I had my system exchanged because of a warped bottom, and in addition to getting an unexpected Samsung screen, I have not heard the hard drive tick like my old one yet.

I had system exchanged as well. My old 1420 had a segate HD which clicked and my new system has a Toshiba hD which does not click.
