I'm getting a BSOD during the 2nd half of the Vista64bit installation phase.. i'm assuming the harddrive driver it automatically provides isn't good enough and causing it to BSOD.

Is there a 64bit SATA driver for 1420s? Dell's not showing one.. but is showing one for 32bit.. .. I tried the 32bit one and it won't take it..

    Thoughts?

Well I know that.. but does anybody know where to get it.. the 64bit version? Dell hosts the 32bit version but it's not compatible with 64bit.

The solution that worked for me requires a separate computer, or your existing one running in ATA mode long enough to download the drivers and get it on the USB drive.

Download the x64 SATA drivers from Intel here, and save it to your desktop.

Open a Command Prompt window, navigate to your desktop (cd desktop), and run the driver with the -a switch, specifically typing 'iata76_enu.exe -a'.

Click 'Yes' to agree, the files will extract, the setup window will close, then navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager\Driver64 for the x64 drivers.

Copy all the files to your USB, and voila. Navigate to the USB drive during the Windows install, and it should all be easy from there.

Credits to an NBR member, who I can't remember right now but I do remember repping for saving me an evening's worth of heartache.

Report back and let us know how it goes.

    Regards,
    Paolo
