    Hi there:

I just wanted to let you all know guys that having compared BOTH of these LCDs on my laptop (teh SEC4457 and LPL00E97) all i can say is that the Samsung is much much better: better colors and no grainyness AT ALL.

The LG is grainy, and colors also don't look as well.

Well, just thought i'd give my two cents to people who have 14.1' laptops and are getting samsung screens who might feel they'd rather have got an LG... the answer is stick with that screen, the SEC4457 is an overall very good screen, its not the greatest i have ever seen, but everything looks pretty darn good.

    Greetings

What you have seen is one Samsung screen better than one LG.

Not all LG screens are superior to all Samsungs. The majority of cases with grainy screens happen to be Samsungs and they have gotten the bad rap. Just because you saw one, or even a hand full of better Samsungs, please don't generalize and mislead others that the Samsung is always better than the LG. No 2 lcd's that are manufactured will be the same and there are far too many people on this board that have been frustrated by receiving poor Samsung lcd's.

OK, let me clarifiy a couple of things:

    - i am generalizing this in 14.1' WXGA+ models OKEY?!! Not in your 15 inch notebooks where i happen to perfectly know that the 1680x1050 samsung panel is terribly bad in comparison to LG

    - i've had 3 SEC4457s, and 2 LGs. Every samsung was superior. Please remember, i am talking about 14.1' INCH MODELS with 1440x900 resolution.

    - If you search around these forums for topics regarding WXGA+ screens on inspirons 1420 or vostros 1400 you will find that everybody who had a secc4457 and an LG chose the samsung over the LG. I think this is tremendous evidence to what i am saying

So, i think i deserve an apology. I never GENERALIZED in all models, i clearly said that this only applies to 14.1' WXGA+ screens. Go ahead and search for yourself, you will find exactly what i'm talking about...

    greetins

lol.. All screens from all brands besides Eizo suck. Deal with it. If you gotten one that appears great, consider yourself to be one lucky person. Otherwise save the newbies out there the head aches. Because now they'll want Samsung panels and meanwhile they were discontinued a while back ago at Dell.

The LCD of my Acer notebook is SEC3845 which is pretty good, I just got my Vostro 1500 and got SEC3350 which is really bad grainy screen!

Both are Samsung LCD but 1 is good and 1 is bad. So it's not all Samsung is good (so do LG), it's depends on batch.

As can see in the forum, statistically for DELL cases, SEC3350 is 99.9999% bad, while LG mostly will be good. LG seems a better bet IF you have a choice to choose between Samsung or LG when you order DELL notebook...

i did get the same impression some time ago last year, when reading about this issues..

The LG 15"' 's screen are better than Sams, but this doesn't seem to be the case in the 14" category. There are more threads that refer to 15" so you can see why people tend to asume LG is better in all models, but is not necessarily the case , at least not in the 14".

Ok at least SOME ONE is able to read what i'm typing... the fact that i'm talking about 14.1' modelos and not 15' where i KNOW that the vast mayority of samsungs suck and LG's are the best.

I happened to have both LG and Samsung on my inspiron 1420 and all i can say is that the samsung WXGA+ is much better...

wow...you need to lay off the coffee. you are taking offense to people questioning your over generalizations?
    I have had 3 14.1 screens:
    1 very grainy AUO
    1 even worse samsung
    1 really good LG

So by your logic I should start a counterpost proclaiming once and for all I have definitive proof that LG are better than Samsung? That doesn't make sense. I have 2 other friends with the 1420 and one has a samsung that sucks and the other has an LG that is great like mine.

    Point:
your samsung is a good screen. My LG is a good screen.
To state anything other than that is pointless. A good display is a good display doesn't matter who makes it.

I agree that when I briefly had a 1420 it had decent colors and no grain. But the viewing angles were pathetic. Just moving your head slightly messed up the angles and the brightness varied too much even when staring directly at it. Two people sitting in front could not view a movie. It was not just the verticle angles that were bad but the horizontal as well. I think the viewing angles and brightness were the major complaints on the sec 14" panel. I'd like to here what you have to say about these issues. Because as of last summer, nobody reported good angles on the 1420 SEC.. The AUO had better angles but that indeed had severe grain that could be seen from across a room on some panels.

I would even go as far as saying that a little bit of grainyness would be ok if the viewing angles were better. Because that 14" sammy I had was undoubtedly the worst for angles I have ever seen.

I'd almost bet money your LG has better viewing angles then the SEC. Unless Samsung has reworked their hardware in a big way to improve viewing angles.

The viewing angles are pretty good on my LG. Horizontal is actually really good compared to the Samsung. Like all notebook LCDs the vertical is not as great but as long as I don't stand or bob my head around it's pretty decent. The bottom of the screen is slightly brighter that the top on a dark background but I mean only slightly whereas with my AUO and samsung displays there was a very bright lightleak on both. All in all I'm very pleased with the LG. I knew it was better than the AUO without even turning it on as the AUO had very visible ripples that showed in any image reflected and the LG has nearly none.
