Hi guys... I was just wondering when dell is planning to release a 14" notebook with dedicated graphics? I know there is the D610 and you can get it with the X300. But then I have heard rumors about the E1405 and D620. I know the D620 once had an option for dedicated graphics card, but it was removed due to some incompatibility.

    Thanks for your help! :)

Supposedly coming out mid-may (E1405) haven't heard which card yet but could be the 7400

I can't confirm anything, Dell is definitely releasing something mid-May but they haven't told me what yet, the XPS 2010 is a likely candidate (19-inch laptop/desktop hybrid) and we know the e1405 is slated for a release at some point, Dell gives us about 2-weeks lead time on exact release dates so I can say it's not going to be within the next two weeks.

I don't know where that guy is getting his information, but from that post it doesn't sound like the E1405 will have a dedicated card.

Well...this is just my opinion on the E1405 having dedicated graphics...

Most of the time 15" and lower laptops don't get good dedicated graphics due to heating issues. This is the most likely reason that the Dell E1405 "might not" get a dedicated card.

If it does get a dedicated card, it will not be a top of the line model due to the cooling issues, it will be a mid-range card like the x1300 or something around those lines so the cooling won't be an issue.

    Just my $.02 :p

It has GMA950 so it's JUST decent enough to run Vista, but that's it. It is however Dual Core, and is CONFIRMED to be released on the 1st of May.

That’s all I'm hoping for is at least a low end card. Like an X300 128MB or better. I currently have an XPS M140, but if dell releases a Core Duo notebook with a dedicated card, I just might have to sell my laptop and get it. I mostly game on my desktop but wouldn’t mind playing a few games on the go, (on lower settings) and having a powerful Core Duo at my fingertips ;)

I'm aware that there are some heat issues with putting a big powerful card in a smaller laptop but I figure if Asus managed to fit in a X1600 in their W3j why can't dell do something like that? With a big powerful card like that the weight increases due to needing more heat vents and fans for the GPU.

I feel ya man. If it wasn't for the non-dedicated/non-higher-end GPU's in the smaller laptops I would have bought one, but the I9300 fits my needs. :)

I hope it comes out on 5/1, though I think we'd know more about the laptop by now if it was.(unless dell is very secretive about their new models till the last minute or since the e1405 is just an updated version of the M140 then there isn't much to say about it since we already know the specs)

How good will the launch deals be?
    (if there are any)

That's what it is, an updated version of the M140 names i1405. It's the same everything, but Core Duo and slightly upgraded integrated graphics.

The only thing I wish they'd done is make it a tiny bit lighter.

What about the D620? Is dell ever going to bring dedicated graphics to that notebook?

If I was to buy a 14" gaming it would be Benq S73 . If you can get it I think you will be very happy with it .

The only con is that its not a tablet convert.

The W3j in my opinion is the best 14" gaming laptop. But the only way I would buy a new laptop is it had a Core Duo CPU, great battery life, and a Dedicated card. At least a low end one that I could play at least every game out on lowersettings. And I wouldn't ever pay more then 1k.
