WTH is going on!?
At this rate I won't have it 'till next year!
I need this ASAP - there's no way they're gonna have it by the EDD (Thursday? Yeah, right!)
So pissed right now, and there are no reps available on the chat to vent at
-
-
There should be an ESD that Dell promised to try to hit. What was it?
-
-
(How) could I go about getting some recompense for this?
An upgrade or something free might sweeten me up a bit...
The most annoying thing is that we ordered two of these machines - €1700 of kit!
I'd love to just ring up now and bite the head off whoever answered, but I'm sure my Dad will want that pleasure all to himself - especially since it was his card & account -

UK (+ European?) users only get an estimated delivery date, not a shipping date.
I recall that Dell normally ship at least 2 days before the EDD. If the order has not shipped 2 days before the EDD then the system automatically recalculates the EDD. Unless their system has changed, the sales people don't have access to the true information about production status.
What model did you order? Is there any comment about delays in one of the order status threads?
John -
As for the free stuff, get on the phone or the chat and demand you be given some free upgrades (if the order is gonna get delayed, and mention the big two-machine kit that you've ordered as well).. try getting all the free stuff like case', cleaning cloth etc etc (since I heard they are running out of supplies for those things)... and ask for some gift coupon' too.. good luck. -
They're Studio 15's - I know I know - I wasn't expecting it early or anything, but it said on the page that there was an extra 3 days, and the only parts mentioned as having delays were the 6-cell batteries - we ordered 9's so it shouldn't make a difference?

This thread shows there have been delays with the Studio 15. However, it is not immediately obvious which, if any, posters are in UK or Europe.
Be thankful that there's no general delay on the Studio 15 such as Dell has now posted for the E series. "Due to unprecedented demand for this system, we regret to inform you of a prolonged delivery time on your order."
John -
Dammit - I thought that as Dell build in Ireland (unless they relocated w/out telling anyone in the country ) that I wouldn't be as susceptible to the delays
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
They have to get the various parts (mainly made in Asia) to Ireland, ready for the final assembly.
John -
Hey any updates on your lappy, since this mornings post???
Cin -
Well, Dad rang 'em (at work, while I was venting here!) and she basically dodged.
She was like "Don't worry, the assembly of one of these machines takes only four hours" and that was enough for him. He rang 'em on my behalf though so I just put on brave face and pretended I was relieved.
Gonna check again in a few mins. -
Still no change - oh well
-
I'm in the same boat - my Studio 15 has now been in pre-production for 9 days. My EDD is less forgiving though - 15th September. No-one on the phone or online has told me anything meaningful, and there were absolutely no delays mentioned on any components when I ordered.
All the time my Studio 15 has been in pre-production, an Inspiron I ordered on the same day has been built, tested, shipped and delivered! -
^ You ordered the exact same specs as me from what I can see!
You get the ATI 3450? -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
If it is any comfort, my E6400 (ordered on 12th Aug with EDD of on or before 15 September) had been in pre-production until yesterday (no surprise, I had been told there was a 2 week lead time on the screen). I checked at 07:30 today and saw it was in production. At 08:30 it was in pre-delivery and by 11:30 it was in delivery (but no tracking number yet). So, once they have all the parts it is only a few hours to put everything together and into a box. Now to hope that Walsh Western don't take up to 15 September to deliver it.
John -
^ You sir have made my day
<3
EDIT: Dammit enable reps!
EDIT 2: actually I take that back - now I'm gonna be checkin every 10 mins!!!! -
The Inspiron I ordered went from pre-production through all the stages to delivery in one day too, so I hope that'll happen soon with my Studio! -
Still there.
The anticipation is killing me...
Actually, on second inspection I got the standard screen... -
It actually took me 11 days to get my XPS M1530. There's probably just a high volume of Dell Studios being ordered I guess. There are only 2 factories that Dell sends their notebook orders too, so it might take some time to get it all arranged. But you'll get it eventually, hopefully the wait will be worth it; I know it was for my XPS.
-
-
I had at least 20 days of pre production.. so.. yea
-
Delayed until 16 September - after I start Uni, so it'll probably be the 20th before I get it in my hands.
I'm so angry now, I knew that rep was lying when she *assured* us it would be here on time.
Only thing is, there's nowhere else around to get a laptop, I'm stuck with dell... -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
The underlying problem is the sales staff don't have the full info about the production status. We went through all this a year ago with the M1330. See this thread. There may be some tips in that thread about how to get your order expedited.
The factory depends on getting the parts in from all over the world and some must get delayed.

Well, I guess I'll only miss freshers week so it wont be too bad.
Still, I wanted a bit of playtime with it first -
Still in pre prod: Not a happy camper
-
Cin -
Nope
Is it kharma?
What did I do?
Could I not get hit by a car or something instead!? -
Obviously something is delayed, but they should have advertised that on the website when you order.
I've tried talking to them on the online chat thing, and then ringing them, but they're absolutely clueless. -
I've ordered on August 8 and am still waiting for my XPS m1530. It was supposed to arrive on the 28th of August. Well now it's September 1, 2008. It's probably because of the holiday and my location (I live in east Texas, hurricane Gustav is scheduled to make its visit here).
Not very satisfied with Dell so far, but I have been satisfied by them in the past. Here's hoping they get things right this time. They've already missed the ESD. Strike two. -
Call Dell tomorrow for an update status and speak with a *live rep*, ask them to specifically advise as to why its still in pre-prod., and send you confirmation by e-mail with a case #...I'm wondering if something is on back order...
Today is a holiday so it wouldnt be delivered today...Call Dell tomorrow and ask them to confirm exactly where the package is with you on the phone..It can be done, they did this for me...
Hoping it doesn't make it to Strike 3....
Cin -
IT SAYS BUILD!!!! (and so on and so forth)
Although it says
That's the day they delayed btw....
meh
BUUUUUUIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLDDDDDDD!!!!!!!
XD
So is there a chance I might get it this week then? -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
You mean it is now in Phase 3? That's good news, finally.
I saw exactly the same thing about the dates. At the top of the screen it said in production with my order date.
Keep watching the status. It should proceed to Phase 5 (delivery within a few hours).
Your order should get on the truck today and you might see it on Thursday. Listen out tomorrow for an automated phone call from Walsh Western about the delivery time slot (day, am or pm).
John -
Yeah, that lovely hyperlinked number 3 in the top right corner of the page
Well I guess if they started building at 9 (start of business hours) and it takes ~4 hours to build I should check again around 1-1:30? (Not that I can wait that long )
Thursday would be so sweet, Friday would even be great. Never heard of Walsh Western, I guess they're a courier company? Hopefully I'll get a call, however as Dell are only an hour down the road (not even actually, maybe 35/40 mins if you stick to the speed limit ) they might use a smaller local company that do runs for my mam at work...
Either way, I might be getting a laptop this week!
(If I seem like an 8 year old on Christmas-Eve then this is coming across wrong - 8 year olds on Christmas-Eve have way more patience & maturity ) -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
I've only heard of Walsh Western in the context of Dell UK distribution. As far as I can see, they handle the bulk movement of the orders from Ireland to a distribution point in Hinckley. By late tonight you should get a link at the bottom of your order status page which will lead you to the Walsh Western tracking system. Then you can watch something like this develop.
John -
Coolio.
Thanks - some of your patience seeped into me. Without this topic I'd have cancelled the order!
EDIT:
They've been dispatched - not by Walsh as you suspected but by Interlink (I have a feeling I'm gonna know the guy who delivers 'em but that's irrelevant)
-
Congrat's looks like things are turning out the way they should for you! (finally)
A WoOT, WOOT! in advance
Cin. -
I've been trying to figure out who you were for ages, the smileys give it away!
You changed your avvy didn't you? -
Yeps, I changed my Avy!!!!
What is the time of the arrival???
Cin -
No idea
I'd say I'll get it early tomorrow judging by the proximity of Dell and the driver who usually comes here's usual schedule. -

John -
Yep, I be on the We(s)t Coast of Ireland.
With a total of ~15-24 hours sunshine this summer, where else could you possibly want to be?
Just means more time on the computer for me -
Cin -
Stop bragging...
I hate you *cries* -
I'm just letting you know what you will be able to do (hang outdoors w/it)! as soon as you get your precious lappy
Soon..think soon!
Cin -
Woot, my status has just gone to production too!!!
Hopefully it'll go through that stage as quick as yours did and I'll get my lovely lappy soon. -
Congrat's to you! That is also, great news!!! See, it may have taken awhile..but now it will be there for you...in your hands before you know it!
Cin -
Well TBH I don't think it'll be that fast if it just changed in the evening - workers will be going home!
That said - by midday tomorow it should be shipped! -
11 Days later - still in PreProduction!?
