I was curious on how the XPS M1330 does when playing back 1080p .mkv rips. I am looking to buy the m1330 but i want to be sure it plays 1080p mkv files fine because i plan to use it with my hdtv.

you need 2.0ghz processor and up , should do fine with hd rips . however, codec decoders software must fully compatible to make it run smoothly... for ex: VLC and Combine Community Codec pack plays certain vid smoother than klite codec pack.

My machine stutters on 1080p .MKV (x264) playback using VLC...

With my specs I think the codec is just immature..

i had bad experiences with VLC myself. On my desktop 720p would play decently and 1080p would not play at all (2.8 dual core, 256mb, 3gb ram)

however when i used KMPlayer (x264 disabled) and the CoreAVC Codec. the 1080p mkv files played flawlessly.

Can anyone test out the KMPlayer + CoreAVC setup on their M1330 XPS (2.2 dual core, 3gb ram, 128mb nvidia)?

It works fine with m1330. I use ffdshow and the processor usage is never above 60% and the playback is stutter free.

ffdhow sucks imo, use cora avc, less heat more battery and colours seems much better imo.

No ffdshow is the best codec but requires the most processor power.

Same here. I use the HDMI output to a plasma TV (well, I did before my motherboard crapped out)

thanks for the input everyone, i may just pull the trigger and order the xps ,1330 (2.2core 2, 3gb ram, 128mb nvidia)

How is the HDMI output on it? That is the main selling point for me.
