Does anyone have a clue here as to why when I got a 7900GS that there is still 1 or 2 MB of ram reserved? Just curious really. I checked the bios and it reports 1024MB detected and 1023MB available.

P.S. - This laptop benched higher on 3DMark05 than my desktop machine. Hmmm....

The first 640k are always reserved by the BIOS. I think that's the reason, at least.

Yea. But even 3dmark05 though some memory was "reserved". It reported 1024 installed and 1022 available. Oh well. I check to see what XP says when I finish reinstalling it (cleaning out the junk that got installed by default). It really isn't that big of a deal. I guess it would be a bigger one if it said something like 64MB was reserved or something.

The 1-2 Mb is still reserved, even for 3DMark.

It's certainly not used for video memory in any ase.
