I was wondering if there is a big difference between the inspiron's 1.8ghz and 2.0ghz processors? I was thinking of getting the 1.8 because there's a deal that makes it pretty cheap, so I was wondering, if I get the 1.8ghz processor will I regret it? I'll be playing games and stuff, yes stuff!

Well, the T7300 the current sweet spot as it has all the features of the fastest CPUs. The extra 2MB of L2 cache is not super useful (negligible difference in average stuff, up to 10% in games and encoding tasks).

oohh ok, another question: is the 2.2ghz THAT much better than the 2.0, because oddly enough the 2.2ghz deal makes it cheaper in Canada for the set up I want

Well, for gaming, your gpu will be the limiting factor, not your cpu. I'd say that 1.8 would be enough, but buy as much as you can afford, keeping in mind to upgrade other things such as hard drive speed, gpu, and RAM before you upgrade the processor.

It would be 2gigs of ram, a 160gig 5400 HDD, and the 8600 (if i get the 1520) or 8400 (if i get the 1420). I dunno if I want to do light gaming, or heavy gaming considering I have a 360

The T7300 is the best bang for your buck.
The difference between the T7100 IS noticeable, but the difference between the T7500 is not.

ok dell canada just updated their laptop deals, now there isn't a 1.8, but a 2.0! So, 2.0 it is! Umm... what's the difference between the 7200 and 5400, is it really noticeable and worth the cost?

Definitely get the 1.8GHz processor and if you get the m1330, get the x3100. Especially if you have a 360 and you "aren't sure" if you're going to game or not.

The 1.8GHz will be PLENTY for anything you need to do. Modern processors are very powerful. And the x3100 is extremely powerful for an integrated graphics chip.

I am leaning on keeping my red 1.8 with 4 gigs ram 160 gig 7200 rpm system

How would that compare to a 2.0 with 2 gigs ram 120 gig 5400 drive

    sorry. for the double post.

yes. you can change your order. it may mean a small delay if they had already started building it; otherwise, you should receive it in the usual time.

Is there a noticeable difference in heat between the 7200 and 5400 HD's? I've been reading up on the Asus C90 and there's been a lot of talk about how much more heat the 7200 hard drive adds, so much that it makes the laptop uncomfortable to use since your hand rests on top of the hard drive slot. Is there a similar concern for the 1520?

I had an Inspiron 1520 with a T7100.. then returned it. The Vostro 1500 I have now has a T7300 and I do feel the difference. Granted I did spend more time tweaking this system but it does feel faster.

I used the search to find this j/w since I just ordered a 1520 w/ 1.8ghz 2gb ram 160gb 5400rpm, 8600m gt 256mb 1440x900 ... if I feel the need to upgrade the hard drive to a faster one later is it easy or will I void the warranty

The Inspiron 1520 is most likely the most well cooled and ventilated notebook that I have ever used. If the more powerful hard drive does generate more heat, it certainly isn't noticeable on this laptop.

I have the T7100 processor, 1.8GHz has been more than sufficient for my needs. Oblivion runs perfectly at full graphics, so I'm happy.
