    Pay 80 bucks for upgrade from Intel® Core™ processor Duo T2300 (2MB Cache/1.66GHz/667MHz FSB) to 1.83 GHz

    or

pay 100 and upgrade from 40GB Hard Drive 5400 rpm to 60gb harddrive 7200 rpm

in terms of which one would improve performance the most. Im still new to computers and notebooks especially, but my guess would be the harddrive without a doubt.

I think you would notice the faster HD more than a processor upgrade.

Agreed, you won't notice much difference between 1.6 Ghz to 1.8 Ghz. However, the HD speed should be noticable.

Make sure you are getting at least 1GB RAM too...you don't have to buy it necessarily from Dell, but just make sure you get as much RAM as you can afford.
