I was going to buy the XPS 140 because of their incredibly low price. Is it worth getting a 1.86 processor instead of 1.73 processor?

invest on more and faster RAM. optimize the ram capacity of your machine's MB. that would be a better and more efficient upgrade for your computer rather than investing on a cpu that has a small differential increment from your original processor.

Yes, I agree. But don't buy RAM through dell. You can get RAM for less then 1/2 of what dell usually charges through zipzoomfly or newegg. You could also upgrade the HD from a 5400RPM drive to a 7200RPM one.

What about the price? If the difference is big, so go with 1.73. I think 1.86 is quite pricey. This may help, for instance, there are 1.86/512 DDR and 1.73/1GB, I would opt for 1.73 and 1GB DDR.

I totally agree to! But you got to know somthing! dont't buy th erma from dell! buy it somewhere else because is cheaper! but if you do not plan to upgrade to soon, just think that you can't upgrade the processor as you can with the ram!
