I just got my i8600 a few days ago, reinstalled Windows, got all the drivers working again, and I'm really loving it! There's just one thing that's bothering me right now: 2 of the web pages I like to check out have a whole bunch of tiny horizontal black and white lines in the bkg. that make it look gray from a distance. But it takes FOREVER to load! Other pages pop up instantly, but these 2 really slow it down. On every other computer I've used those 2 pages load instantly as well.

I have the 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 vid card, so I'm just wondering why it loads so slow. Also, it has the Pentium M 745 (1.8Ghz), WSXGA+ screen, and 768 MB RAM (333mhz).

    Here's the sites:

    www.xbox-scene.com

    www.teamxecuter.com

Anybody else have this issue or know what to do about it? (other than staying away from the sites :)

Wow, I don't know. I have the same video card and everything, except I have 512 megs of ram. It loads decently in Internet Explorer, but Firefox loads it instantly.

I was thinking of sticking FireFox on it sometime anyway. I guess that's a good excuse for me to hurry up and get to it.

    Hi Scalded Ape,

The problem you are having is because of the autoresising feature in Win XP. You have to disable it. This feature resizes the internet screen size to make fonts and graphics larger for the high res screen on the 8600. However it also slows down screen uploads were there are complicated graphics in the background. Look at my previous posts from a few months ago to see how to turn it off.

I got firefox going and it works great now, except that I can't resize the font very well. I've been messing with it for awhile but it uses the default size on some pages, which is too hard to read unless I'm close to the screen.

I looked thru your post history, Magiciaen, but couldn't find what you were talking about. I think I can probably figure it out myself though.

    Hi Scalded Ape,

Check out the solution as I posted it here:

    http://www.notebookreview.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1323

You have to tweak the regedit settings in IE6 to turn the autoresizing feature off. As for the tiny internet text, you can compensate (for all text except in some frames) by setting the IE6 font size to large.

    Good luck! [ ;)]

Thanks, that worked pretty well! I changed the text size to "larger" under View, but it doesn't apply to a lot of pages. Oh well. I'll get used to it.

    Lower the screen resolution.
