Got my E1705 two days back with 2 512s i already had Corsair 1 667 Mhz gig stick so fitted that it in and removed 1 512 ofcourse. Everything seems to work but is it wise to mix the two? or get another 1 Gig Stick? 2 Gigs of memory seems like overkill.

If you really don't need 2GB's, there really is no advantage in replacing the last stick, other than maybe to enable dual channel. It would increase your performance, but not by much.

If the memory speed isn't the same, you won't get dual channel operations. Memory needs to be used in matched pairs if you want dual channel. It's silly to have a core duo processor if the memory isn't available to take advantage of it. 2GB is not overkill, especially if you game or use any type of labor-intensive applications. You will see more of a performance increase by adding memory vs. upgrading a processor from 1.6 to 1.8Ghz.

I believe it does it by default when the same speed and size memory is installed
