I am having a problem with my Adamo RJ-45 port, the network connector. Once I plug a cable in there, I cannot unplug it, there is not enough clearance for the locking mechanism to come out when I depress the release pin with my thumb. I used a small sharp knife to depress the release pin harder, and was able to unplug it. Is anyone else having a similar issue?

mine is a bit harder to get out than most computers, but it does come out without the use of any screwdrivers/knives. Have you tried several different patch cords? In my experience, some patch cords are harder to remove than others. (which is horrible when you are taking 48 of them out at a time in a patch panel)

    cheers

    Hi!

Anyone uses Dell Adamo with an external LCD? I have a Dell 24" via DVI cable and when I watch a video I see some blue blinking dots. As iff the Video card could no handle the resolution. I think the card should be able to display 1920x1080, right? My Dell is 1920x1200, so I'll try it with a different LCD screen.

Try different video drivers, and a different DVI cable, I remember seeing a similar issue somewhere, and it was attributed to HDCP.

I installed Win7 Enterprise on a customers Adamo and I have everything working except for the light sensors and keyboard's backlighting. I installed all available drivers from Dell's support site and under device manager the light sensor says its working but I see no evidence of that.

    Any ideas?

Just picked up a lightly used Adamo 13 off eBay for $780. It's the pearl coloured one and has been upgraded to the Intel X18-M (80GB) SSD. I'm pretty psyched for it to arrive, it should be awesome.

I need help from someone who placed an order for the Adamo from Dell.

I placed an order on the 21st of May and I have an estimated delivery date of June 8. Does production time really take that long? I ordered the basic model with no modifications whatsoever. Why do they need that much time?

Who waits 3 weeks for a laptop these days?

Please let me know what your experience was like.

    Thank you.

I ordered a black one, after 10 days called in and changed it to white (no fingerprints), that reset the building process and they sent it to me 3 weeks after the switch, so took about a month from start to finish.

Do you think we'll ever see 17", 16" or 15.6" Dell Adamo's with discrete video cards to compete with the 17" HP Envy series and or MacBook Pros ?

Has the Adamo been discontinued? I just went to the Dell site to look at some options and a page comes up saying the model is no longer available. Wonder what is up with that. Wonder what will replace it if anything.

yeah i would be very disappointed if they discontinued the Adamo 13. Excellent, industrial-style design and looks and it's fast enough for most people looking for a premium thin and light and don't care about gaming.

I plan on getting one next summer. Hope it's still around then, but with 4GB standard and slightly faster processor.

    Hi guys!

One question. Can you flip your Adamos to the back side and have a look and the place where the back cover meets the side. Is the cover tightly to the sice or do you have a small space between them?

My Adamo has space all-round and I can't remember if this was there from the beginning or not.

    Thanks!

In that case, I'm going to avoid buying the eBay one that's going for just over $800 after BCB.

I'm a multitasking monster at heart. I drew the line at the MBP's P8600 processor before I sold it. If the i5-xxxUM-series processor is truly capable of overclocking automatically, I may be interested in getting an Adamo post-discounts. But I'm a bit concerned about the keys. Anyone care to elaborate on how they are for long hours of typing?

Also, is there any chance Dell could refresh the Adamo and offer an SSD with TRIM support? I'd rather not have to fleabay anymore items!

Also, how's the touchpad? Has anyone tried using/installing Synaptics scrybe with any multitouch gestures and two-finger scrolling?

Has anyone tried to get their Adamo serviced? I've had a latch issue with the Adamo ever since I got it and lived with it. Recently I have been trying to get it fixed and boy it is a disaster. No one seem to be able to support my unit even though "don't worry it does have warranty" (to quote the agent). So after 2-3 hours I had someone come to my house to fix it...only to damage the notebook. It is obvious the technician never serviced an Adamo before. So another 2-3 hours on the phone. A manager was supposed to call me back but heard nothing for nearly a week... I haven't had a Dell in awhile and I forgot how much of a pain it is. Really wish I bought a MacBook Air or even a MacBook Pro 13" and called it a day.

p.s. My previous Dell was a E4200 with the infamous loud fan. Dell couldn't fix that either. At least I was told straight up "we can't do anything about it".

Last time I had mine serviced, it wouldn't turn on anymore and they had to replace it. (it took like a month). The repair tech has been out several times and does a pretty good job...I just think they aren't very servicable.

Did you have to file a complaint with the BBB to get it serviced?

I guess that kicks aside any future plans I may have of buying Dell warranties.

No, it is not a matter of serviced. More like serviced the way I want. I mean I could have sent it in and let it float around Dell's depots for like a month before I got it fixed but I chose not to go that route. My particular Adamo had some specific issues that would have made a depot service a hassle that the normal support agents just chose not to recognize. The escalated supported agreed with me that a replacement would be the faster and better option.

I have an Adamo I want to restore back to factory condition. Do I need to use the re-installation CD to do that, or is there a way to do a restore without it?

@lixuelai Have you ever tried doing the chat support? I think it's quicker to connect to an agent and you can more easily do something else at the same time instead of holding a phone to your ear which makes it a LOT more tolerable of an ordeal.

Apparently, the Adamo Desire (2.1GHz) has been discontinued, and the only Adamo's sold by Dell now are are 1.4GHz. How stupid is that?

Yeah, I think they're just trying to get rid of current stock, and quietly close the line. It just wasn't successful at the initial price, and the price cut put it in line with the white macbook, which has far better battery life and processing power. The Macbook Air is much more expensive, but it has a faster processor, discrete GPU (equivalent to Ion1, not great, but takes care of the multimedia aspect, and I've seen people game on it, so) and so on.

Nothing beats the Adamo in terms of looks though. Macbook Air is OK, but is shaped like a cheap netbook. Envy is decent, but clearly a ripoff of the MBP. the Adamo was the only one that had a unique style and design, so it's too bad that it's clearly on its way out.

If only MSI or Asus could rip off the design somehow and create a successor.

Dell should take another look at the Adamo ... reposition the laptop as a Premium product with excellent Design and Power :)

    • Add a quad core processor
    • Add a dedicated graphics card
    • Add a external Blu Ray combo drive

Take a look at the success of the new Alienware M11X ...

In my opinion, giving the the Adamo the above features would

    - make it look like the M11X, which is one of the ugliest, thickest "thin+lights" available
    - quad core (!) would make it overheat like dell's Studio XPS 16 and HP's Envy 15/17
    - ditto for discrete graphics. The thin profile of the Adamo would be compromised with discrete graphics and the extra cooling and vents they require. the technology isn't there yet.

I agree about the external Blu-Ray drive. Packaging it with all configurations of the Adamo would make the price easier to stomach. I also think that while discrete graphics would be overkill for a niche product like the Adamo, the screen resolution should be better than 16:9 1366x768.

Upgrading the chipset to i-Core ULV (and Intel HD integrated graphics) would easily take care of any stuttering on hi-def video. If they could somehow keep the slim, angular profile, unibody look, but make the battery removable, the low battery life would not be too much of an issue for me. In fact, with the above specs I mentioned, I would actually be OK with paying $1100 or so for it; I have no idea if that's feasible cost-wise for Dell however.

Really tempted to take the plunge on this very pretty laptop. I can't stop staring at pictures of her...uh...it. Is the beauty really only skin deep? Do you regret getting the Adamo?

If you could do it over again, would you?

from what people are saying, the battery life and non-replaceability is what ultimately kills the Adamo. Beautiful machine, decent power for such a slim profile (1.4 SU9400 is markedly faster than Core 2 Solos), but it doesn't match the battery life of other machines in its weight class.

Personally, I'm looking at Latitude Z600s in the Outlet. Yes, it doesn't look as slick (but pretty close IMO), but it's just as thin, same speed, same RAM, HD screen, replaceable battery, and only 4.5 pounds with a 4Cell battery. It's available starting at $800 with a 3 year warranty.

The Z looks sharp. I don't know if I want a 16" screen though. I have a 23" on my desktop. I'm looking for a replacement to my m1210 (12"). The m11x is the natural next step, but it's even more chunky then my m1210, although it does have appeal.

I hate making decisions like this....
