1500 for low end, 2K for high end one. Much better than new, but these are refurbs

I've bought a ton of refurbed machines from Dell and they've always been good as new.

I'm not saying refurbs are bad,but it woulda been nice if they had some new but returned systems too. Also it would be nice if they had some coupon codes to go along with the adamo to lower the price a bit more.

Same here, and they often say "previously ordered new" which basically means completely new.

To anyone doubting the quality of outlet systems - I could show you brand new and a refurb and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference (unless it was scratch and dent).

My company has bought 20 or so outlet systems over the past couple of years and they ALL were practically brand new. They even had the fresh factory scent!

I am pretty sure they are sent back to the manufacturing facilities (penang, xiamen, etc) for inspection and refurbishing.

    Serously, the outlet is fantastic.....

Meh..even for the Outlet..still to pricey. Price it at around $1200 for low end..
$1500 for high end...+/- on both.

Yes, the Outlet is an awesome resource for lappys, as such!

Hey all. New to this forum...
I recently ordered a Dell Adamo. I do not see many "User Reviews" on this thread, so I am wondering who owns one and how do you like it?
I have read many reviews from CNet and PCMag and so forth that talk about the beauty of the system, but the mushy inside...
Here's my deal...Yes, I found it to be overpriced...However, I am one of those "Beauty Junkies" that adores the look and style of the Adamo. I had planned on waiting til the price came down a bit, but my current laptop is about to crash...so I went ahead and ordered.
Now, I do normal office/school stuff, browse the net, play with pics a bit, iTunes/music, and gaming....BUT, my gaming is not what I consider to be "Major gaming". I do Sleuthing games (Big Fish games) and games such as that...
Those of you that own the Adamo please let me know what ya think...
Will the system handle the gaming that I do without flaws?
My system has not shipped yet. It will be another week-week and a half before I get it.
    Thanks!!
    B

I love mine, the only thing i hate is the constant polishing. I ordered Onyx and it is indeed a fingerprint magnet. Also you can't avoid the tiny dust particles from showing, so you will be wiping it often even when not touching it, unless you ordered Pearl one. Pearl seems to be immune to all the evil stuff :D

Build quality is excellent and on par with Apple. Laptop is sturdy and doesn't suffer from any flex. Video review on Engadget reported some flex on the hump but i didn't notice any, they must have gotten a pre-production piece. Can't objectively comment on keyboard as people have different feel and size of hands, but i love it. Perfect feel, travel time and spread for me. And the backlit keys look sexy, it even has 3 levels of illumination - off, dim and bright, or you can use ambient light sensor and let the laptop switch between them automatically. The keyboard is not isolated so you will see a minor light leak when looking from some angles, but that's hardly a bad thing. The slot for SIM card for GPS/Mobile Broadband is a bit fragile, quite hard to pull out and feels like it can break after extensive use, but i opened it only once to insert the card and i doubt i will ever do it again so shouldn't be of any concern, unless you change mobile providers every month. USB slots at the back feel a bit tight and you need to apply slightly more force to insert USB peripherals than you are used to, not sure if it will loosen up with frequent usage or it will stay that way, but at least it feels solid. I was very surprised with speakers - most 13" slim/ultraportables have crappy speakers (Sony Z) and some only single mono speaker (MBA) - but Adamo is decent. You get 2 speakers, and even though bass is non-existant, they are loud enough to watch movies or listen mp3 comfortably at max volume without any distortion.

Battery life seems fine, i managed to get slightly over 6 hours while browsing internet with WiFi and BT turned on and display brightness set to 1 level above minimum. Same display brightness, all radios turned off and playing DivX .avi movies from USB flash drive got me to around 2 hours 50 minutes. Also the battery is supposedly non-user replaceable, but it is really easy to replace. Battery is glued/soldered to the back cover though, so if you want to carry a spare battery, you are literally carrying a whole second bottom cover :) They are already on Ebay, seen them for around 70 pounds, which seems affordable and you can always keep one in your office or in your car if you need another battery in a hurry. Replacing is a matter of 1-2 minutes. All you need is a thin screwdriver, scissors, key or any thin, solid object. You release 3 latches at the bottom part with it, remove the unsecured bottom cover, unplug a ribbon cable. Then you put the new bottom at place, plug in cable, close the cover, lock 3 latches, done. There is no seal or anything, so impossible to detect and void warranty. The only negative thing i have to say about battery is extremely long charging time, but i have read same stuff about MBA so i guess it has something to do with slim batteries. However, charging adapter is very small and light, so easy to carry around with you.

Not sure which version of Adamo you got, i bought the faster one with 1.4GHz CPU, and it is plenty fast for ordinary every-day tasks - internet browsing, office work, watching movies. 1.2GHz version can struggle with HD videos with higher bitrate. The only games i play is CS:Source and Plants vs Zombies, it can handle both smoothly. If you plan on doing some extreme video editing or gaming, get a decent desktop, people don't buy Adamo for power, it's meant as a 2nd computer for work after all. Also Adamo barely gets warm even when under full load for several hours. I was considering MBA but the issues with heat put me off. I was afraid that Adamo might also suffer from heat, even though less than MBA, but this luckily didn't happen - ULV CPU + aluminium body is just awesome for cooling, men finally don't have to be scared for their fertility. You can comfortably have your Adamo in your lap for 3 hours and it will be only luke-warm. Also there are no vents at the bottom, so you can literally place it anywhere without fear of blocking something.

Not to sound overly positive and "fanboy-ish", i was a bit disappointed with LED LCD. The resolution is a bit low, and even though it is easier to read than higher resolution display of same size, you can see individual pixels on the screen. It almost feels like a giant mobile phone display from 2 years ago. Also the screen is 16:9 and there's a lot of unused space at the bottom part of the bezel, they could have comfortably fitted 16:10 display with higher res. Prepare to scroll A LOT when viewing web pages or documets. The colors are bright and vivid, white is really white, but black levels were a huge disappointment for me. I was used to 17" CCFL LCD on XPS M1730 which had awesome picture and very dark black color, my Adamo displays more of a dark gray rather than black. For this reason i stopped using dark wallpaper and picked brighter one, maybe i'm too picky but i'm sure Dell could have used better display. Horizontal viewing angles are perfect, vertical angles are worse and very narrow, i have to adjust the display angle a lot when not working on a desk. The LED backlight is good, if not too bright. There are like 15 brightness levels, and highest i can get is around level 5, anything higher will probably burn my eyes after prolonged use and i can't stare at the screen for more than 5 minutes at max brightness. But you can ofcourse set lower brightness so it's not really a complaint, just observation :) I usually either set the brightness to 0, 1 or 2, depending on light conditions, but don't really go higher. At least good for battery.

To sum it up, i'm very satisified with Adamo and don't regret a single penny i spent on it. It performs flawlessly in its intended field of work, build quality is top notch and it's a looker, i'm getting a lot of compliments from business partners and colleagues. Also i don't want to sound like a nerd, but women are absolutely digging Adamo :) However, missus would not be impressed about chatty ladies so i have to shoo them all away.

If you are interested in something more particular, just ask

    Tuwa,
Thanks so much for the review!!! Really detailed and helped me out a ton.
I actually ordered the Pearl Admire! So hopefully I will have good luck with mine as well.
I am very excited about my Pearl Adamo...and I am thinking from al the reviews I have read and now yours...it will do what I need it to do. Again, I am not into major gaming, I am into some, but nothing major! I do some business work with it and editing pics and net browsing...but I am very excited about the looks. It is a very sexy PC, and I can see all those women going ga-ga over it. (I am one of those)...haha
Thanks agian for the fabu review!! I enjoyed reading it!

Adamo "Admire" will be sufficient for the stuff you are describing, you shouldn't really run into any issues. And good choice of color, the Pearl seems totally maintenance-free and it seems to be better suited for women - the etched pattern on the lid is not very manly in my book, but i'm not judging other men getting it  If there was a Pearl one with brushed aluminium look as Onyx, i would consider it.

Make sure to post here once your Adamo arrives, your experience, what you like, dislike, if it's trouble-free and such. And how many angry & jealous women attempted to scratch your eyes out :D We need more Adamo owners to keep this thread alive.

Actually, in my experience dealing with Dell, all of my orders have come at least a couple days before the estimated date. They tend to be very much worst-case when it comes to estimating those, so if there's a surprise, it's good rather than bad.

Has there been any word lately on the Adamo 9/10 premium netbook ? I wonder if it's still coming out or if it was canned? I was waiting for Dell to release a Adamo model with 16" screen, a PC aluminum unibody alternative to the 15"/17" MBP. However, I couldn't wait so I ordered a Sony FW490 recently. At first I wanted the XPS 1640, but the heating issues coupled with the glossy black palm area under the keyboard changed my mind.

I still need a travel companion and a Adamo 10 with ION & Windows 7 pre-installed would be nice.

Smaller Adamo still exists only in rumours afaik, nothing official yet. I also don't think it will be released this year. Q2 2010 sounds more realistic, but that's just my guess.

I read that a bunch of new netbooks/notebooks would come out around the time that Windows 7 gets released so I was hoping for a Oct/Nov. release for this. Then again, the release of any other Adamo model may depend on how well the Adamo 13 does in the market.

I read another rumor that the Adamo 13 will be refreshed around the time Windows 7 gets released so it's possible that Dell will also release Adamo Jr. at the same time.

    Thanks Tuwa & Cin'. :)

Adamo 13 just received a $500 price drop, bringing the price to $1499 for Desire and $2299 for Admire. Should be slightly more affordable, even though still quite expensive.

You beat me to it. :)

I wonder if that's a indication of poor sales or just your typical Dell price drop. Well, it might convince some people on the fence to pull the trigger. I might even consider it as my travel notebook once Windows 7 is released. I know I would get a free upgrade if I purchased now, but it might be wise to see how low Dell goes.

I thought the Admire was $2,699 which would mean a price drop of only $400 for that model?

Not bad... But still too pricey for what's in it.

Dell needs to throw in newer CULV procs and have 4 gigs of RAM standard.
    It's a start but not enough I don't think.

Anyone seen any prices in the outlet yet? Been checking but they haven't put any in there yet....

They might actually be around that price seeing as Dell has lowered the prices :)

Outlet prices are VERY competitive so it'll be interting to see how Dell prices them...

So, with this new 500.00 price drop...brings me here for some advice...
I ordered my Adamo about 3-4 days ago (I posted here previously about it). My status is still "In Production" for my Adamo. Then today, I find out about a 500.00 price drop, a mere 3 days after I placed my order! So, of course, I am a little perturbed by the fact that this reduction was not mentioned to me a few days ago by a Dell Rep when I ordered my PC (unless they were unaware of the upcoming discount, which I doubt, but could be wrong). Anyway, so I call customer service today to receive help with this situation. I asked to either get a 500.00 reduction taken off of my account, or I would gladly order the Desire and pay the difference because now the Desire is so close in price to what I just paid for the Admire...
Guess what...they would not do this for me! I asked the CS rep is there was anyone else I could speak with and basically she told me no!
So, I asked her about their return policy...Apparently I have 21 days to return my PC after I have received it.
So, I guess my question(s) to you all is....
How do you feel about this experience I had with Customer Service?
Do you think what is happening is fair, or am I being unreasonable?
If I return it, my plan is to return it, then order the Desire at the new price, but how long does it normally take for the return process to go through, and my Dell account be replenished? Will it be another 30 day turn-around time to get all this taken care of?
And overall...any suggestions of what I should do about this situation?
Thanks kindly for the answers...Cause boy....$500.00 means a lot to me!

Well, only thing you can do is try and talk to other Sales reps and tell them about your situation. Tell them that if they don't cancel the order, you WILL return the product. Try 2-3 reps, just to be 100% sure, but don't press too hard, else you risk getting that stupid restocking fee or whatever it is. Even though i doubt that talking to reps will work.

I have no clue where are you from and about consumer protection law in your country, but i doubt you can do much. Any manufacturer/retailer can change price at his own discretion and once you confirmed your order, you literally signed a contract for certain price. The only guaranteed way to get lower price is to return the notebook once it arrives and go through whole order process again, but it can take several weeks before your refund is issued. I would also check what's the policy on refusal to accept the delivery in your country, it might save some time so Dell doesn't have to send you the return box. But check first.

Yeah...I am thinking if I return it, it will be a long process before I am able to get refunded, then purchase another one. But darn, 500.00 is a lot of cash.

This is terrible customer service. The Adamo is being marketed as Dell's "luxury" brand - included luxury service. There is absolutely no excuse for them giving you this kind of runaround. I've been a long time Dell customer and have been in a similar situation more than once - although it usually involved changing out an option at the last minute. I've never had any problem getting the order changed/canceled at the last minute - and this is with their lower end machines! I have to think that for whatever reason, you're dealing with the wrong service reps. As much as I hate to say it (because I'm in the same business), you may have to just flip the "a-hole switch" and not take no for an answer until you get someone who step up and do the right thing.

    In any event, good luck!

you can get a pearl adamo for as little as $1029 b4 tax now, thats about 50% off from a brand new system.
waht is dell issue some coupons for adamo series as well, that would bring the outlet price down to another 15-20%.
ouch, so much for a premium system.

Thank you. Yeah, I kinda thought it was uncool! And, I did not turn on the A-hole switch, but did get firm, AND asked the lady if there was someone else I could speak with, and she said, NO...I would get the same answer...This is the policy...blah blah. I even told her I would return it, and that did not seem to phase her. I was offering to PAY a little more to get the more expensive system, seeing as it would only be about 100.00 more than I paid for the "cheaper" one several days ago, but that was a no go. I really HATE to go through the hassle of returning the system, waiting forever for the refund to hit my Dell account, THEN, re-ordering another...But dag...I am feeling a little hurt about spending 500.00 more for this system just a few days ago...It has not even arrived to me and the prices were slashed!
    Ugh!

I'm the one that picked up the Adamo Pearlfor $1029., but not before I got my 15% discount Dell emailed today and then another 2% off for Dell Preferred Account. Before tax it was $857. WOW! They will ship for free and I'll get Windows 7 when it releases. It's the 1.2GHz, but I'm not complaining. I'm geeked and can't wait to get.

Where are these coupons? And what's a preferred account?

Also, does the Adamo have trouble playing 1080p video, or high-def shows off Hulu?
