My e1505 won't run on battery anymore. The battery meter shows 88% charge, says healthy, but laptop won't power up and turns off if I unplug it. i got 9 cell off of ebay just couple of months ago, some OEM, not dell. Not sure if it's battery or the laptop, I do have extended warranty for another year, thinking of using it now but not sure what their policy will be on non-dell battery. Anybody had these issues or has any idea what it might be. Also, do you think dell won't honor warranty assuming it's not battery issue? thanks.

They will not cover the battery if you did not get it from them. Warranty is usually only one year on batteries for laptops. I would personally never get "some OEM" brand of battery, they usually are very poor quality which is also probably why yours no longer is working. Definitely does sound like a battery issue, but if it is not, they should honor the warranty. I might leave out the part about buying some third party battery though.

Well OEM means it IS a dell battery. So what is it? A dell battery or a knock off?

Ah, my bad. I thought he meant he got a third party battery, I've seen them before and they were always complete junk.

thanks for input. it is a third party/no name brand. however in this case i'm not sure it's a battery - why would it show it as healthy and charging/charged yet not work ... is there any way to test the battery on a laptop or get additional info on it? thanks.

You can try these guys. http://www.discountelectronics.com/

I got my 9 cell battery from them and so far so good. Picked it up over the summer(last week of June). Looked on ebay first but I wanted a Dell battery. Just didn't want to pay the price that was coming up on the dell website.

They are located in Austin, just like Dell headquarters.

Rechargeable batteries will tend to stop holding a charge after a time. The chemicals in the battery slowly change and the battery eventually becomes useless.

Your laptop will not power on if the battery is feeding it less voltage than it needs or the voltage is unstable. So even though it may be showing 80 - 100%. If it's not putting out the required wattage, then the laptop isn't going to recognise it as a valid power source.

If plugging into the mains allows th elaptop to work, then chances are the battery you were sold was a dud.
