Ive had it for about two months, and so far i am very happy. After an initial reformat, and reinstall, everything runs smoother. Its fast, and it plays all the games i have thrown at it.

 

Cool idea, better than everyone making their own threads and over-loading the forums.

There was no option for Yonah when I customized my m1210, so I guess it'll be more difficult if you want a Yonah w/ lower price. (But I guess there'll be lots of "returned and new" w/ Yonah in the Dell outlet soon. probably people who ordered a Yonah in the past 21 days may want to return it for a Merom.

Despite a spate of bad recent experiences with Dell, my latest PC purchase (12th overall now) was a XPS M1210. That makes it my 6th Dell PC for personal use. I guess I'm just a sucker for punishment. Almost went with the Asus W3J, but the better battery life and portability of the M1210 won out in the end. Sort of tough paying the same $ figure for a small screen and weaker GPU, but I guess in the laptop world that happens...

I do wish they had an option for zero hardware support/warranty. It's not like I'd ever attempt to deal with those guys again anyway...

BTW, orders today have a 9/12 ship date for M1210 with the Core 2 Duo.

How long are we talking? I've only had my M90 for a little over a month. That's pretty new to me. Specs are in sig and price was $1975 with a price-match deal from Dell.

It's not really 180 degrees, but it's a step in the right direction. Certainly something to look at if you have a GPU that can handle those crazy resolutions. Probably need a desktop for that kind of gaming.

Yeah all the M1210 batteries are sony. Mine is, its just not affected by the recall.

does dells primary ship date ever fluxuate a bit. They said boxing takes about a day and that would be tommarro wich is tues and I got 3-5 day shipping. It still says estimate is Tuesday the 5th

have had my 1505 (1.83 GHz, ATI x1300, 1 Gb RAM) for over 4 months. very happy with it, especially given the price i paid (around USD800). i still have an excitement every time i use it the only thing is - keyboard seems a bit fragile, I try to be careful while typing, or maybe cause it's my first notebook.
few weeks ago my 1.5 year old was able to "peel" off CAPs lock button and quickly ran away after doing that - but I put it back and it works fine.

Sureshot, M1210's with your config and the Cuore 2 Duo are around $1500 currently. Once you pile on the additional memory, HD, etc. it quickly adds up.

 

Not really...Dell Home is asking for almost $500 more if I remember correctly. And $1999.00 is AFTER tax and shipping!

In any event, I'll end up using all that anyway! Between the video, gaming, Vista (in about a year), software engineering...yup I could use those specs. Regardless though, I got a 12% EPP so I already have a little deal here.

I think his setup actually costs around $1700...but i might be wrong.

Dell asked for $175 to upgrade to that HDD, NewEgg sells the same drive for $169.99 (w/ shipping)...I thought it would be fair. I might be able to get the 2GB for ~$40 cheaper through NewEgg, but I really didn't want to have to deal with TWO companies if this PC ever has issues. I'll pay the $40 to keep it all in Dell...now if they charged $100+ that would be a different story.

 

I just hope the build quality is good enough to last 3 years...

Well i bit the bullet late last night and ordered a e1705 with the t7200 core 2 duo over the phone! Cant wait, i have a ship date of Sept. 12 which isnt too bad considering it was just released yesterday. I know the early adopter usually pay the price premium but i got to use the 20% off coupon and when i called in and used my DPA to purchase and got an additional $50 rebate. On top of that if i find a similarly spec'd competitors system at a lower price i can get another $50 off mine! Here are my specs:

Thats $200 more then the dv8000t i cancelled, but i think its def. worth the money. I also saw a promotion for a free skin thru dell.com/skins, but havent tried it yet, do they have any nice skins on that site?

I was one of the fortunate ones who used the 30% off coupon when it was working for XPS back in late June/early July.

The total came to $1,976 - 30% coupon - 12% epp - $50 off coupon I bought from some dude on ebay to get the final price.

I thought Dell may do another XPS coupon but it looks unlikely. They have been using the "instant savings" in lieu of coupons on the inspirons/desktops lately and it really sucks

 

i'll gladly take my $1999 M1210 though...beats my second place notebook by about $500 (business class HP nc8430)! Smaller, just as fast, and still beats the heck out of my XPS m140!

BTW...if anyone does know how to get a lower price...

you know what is really funny...Dell rep said that he believed there was some type of "premium" ram in the XPS series, so he wouldn't cut me a deal to upgrade to 2 GB!
and he backed out of a $80 off deal he promised!

Oh well, I reordered the notebook, got a better deal, and added the Bluetooth!

I've noticed the Core 2 Duo's are starting to appear. In Canada, it was possible to get it on the 9400 (1705), but the price is much higher.
The Core 2 Duo review right here on this website for the 6400 model (1505) said that it only gets a 10% boost. So a normal duo upgrade from 1.66 to 2 GHz is a bigger boost than a 1.66 duo to a 166 duo 2.
The 64 bit part will not buy a lot either, as most software is still 32 bit, and will remain 32 bit compatible for many years to come.
Windows vista will run just fine on 32 bit. Besides, I'm a Linux guy, so I don't care for this vista thing anyway. I've experienced a lot of headaches with my work dual AMD64 with all those lib64 libraries, so I'm not going to miss it.
I do like to tinker with assembler code, but I'll have to stick with 32 bit code...

I would like to get at least $ 200 off but the memory upgrade special is only good until August 31, 2006, so I was a bit worried if didn’t get the lappy by tomorrow.

Is it a good deal my XPS M1710 config for that price?

I paid $ 1478 CDN + tax for a system that's almost as good as yours.

Your Core (2) 2.16 is only about, at best, 20% faster than my Core (1) 2.

I am not trying to compare my system to your system.
I bought the XPS for gaming and I don't think the Inspiron 9400 with your config would play decently new games coming up next year or so, not with the 256MB ati x1400, which is much , much inferior and cheaper than the Go 7900 GTX.

I think your system is awesome, but not for games.
I even configured one Inspiron 9400, but with the Core 2, 2 gb, and the 7900 gs, and the the price came close to the XPS.

What I'm asking is wether or not I've paid a reasonable price for a "gaming" system comparing it to others system with "SIMILAR" config.
Particularly i would like know the price people have paid for the XPS if anyone here has recently bought the XPS with the Core 2 Duo.

ps: Me neither, so I got the black one , cause i have had 2 isnpiron just like the 9400 and kind got sick of the white strips on the sides.
BTW the XPS is only 390 grams heavier than the 9400, and that definitively wouldn't lower the suspension of a car more than the 9400 would.

Well I would put the sonic and roxio stuff back on if you want to burn CDs/DVDs. You should re-install the media direct stuff, and what ever else you want to have on there, word/excell/power point etc.

I just picked up a 6400. The Candian site doesn't have any lucrative coupons like the US one, but I called them up and managed to talk the rep into giving me 100 bucks off the online price. The price probably isn't as good as a similar US system, but I'm still fairly satisfied.

I just ran your config through the CA website. Came to 1559 + tax. x 1.14 = 1777.26. Close enough.

I really like my $1473 + tax 17" 9400 with the 17" wuxga and the C1D 2GHz.
The 5400 rpm drive is just fine. I think with the 120GB size, I think the drive has to rotate a lot less than my previous 40GB drive from my old 8200 laptop, so I'm expecting a big HD speed boost. Except for booting the OS, most stuff stays cached in memory anyway, and the small amount of writing can happen in the background anyway.

I like your pick too, kind of. I would have shaved off a few things, like take the slower but larger harddrive. It is possible that because the drive has to rotate less to read the same amount of data, that the 7200 rpm thing doesn't buy you anything (this *has* to be somewhat shocking...?) - but get the facts before drawing conclusions (goes for me too).
Perhaps the cpu one notch down to save more. Probably would not have done the bluetooth thing - although - I guess you can use a wireless mouse without a thing sticking out your usb port. I think some cell phones do bluetooth as well - how does that work?
Other than that - definitely 2 thumb way up on the wsxga+ choice over the lame wxga screen.
I actually think that my wuxga is going to be a tad too fine...

I really think though, that people are way to easily taken with the hysteria - and hype.
