    Hy all.
At the near past I have buy 2pcs of Dell 5530 WWAN card for my XPS M1210 and My XPS M1730.
All this notebook are not built whit this cards on the factory this is the reason while i write this short post.
So, when you want to setup this card, or any Dell xxxx wwan card , you need to buy one :p and download the driver from Dell. Just check out which notebook has made whit this card and download the latest driver.
    ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/comm/DELL_WIRELESS-...A07_R220893.exe
    I use the A07
Then when I want to run the setup, I have seen an error window, and it told me , Authentication failed !

Your notebook is not supported for this Dell 5530 wwan card, please contact Dell... Umm, what do you mean? Authentication failed? I need the approval letter from some agency to install this card now?
So now comes the hacking :D
So, run the setup.exe and then when you get the error message then don’t click on the ok button. You will find the installers files on this map: C:\Users\(user name)\AppData\Local\Temp\, make sure you enable show invisible folders in the Folder Options in Control Panel.
When you have the then map, then copy the xxxx.msi file to a selected folder on your C:/ (Wheare you find it)
Then download a free MSI database table editor called ORCA or Super ORCA.
Install OCRA, and open the file that you saved, and follow the steps on the picture, when you finished click save. That's it. Time to install the modified file, now you won't get the error window. Success!!!

Now I can install the darn thing without hitches and approval letter from the authorities. I plugged the card in again and the drivers were correctly installed.
So now how about the connection management? If it’s not working then try the SE Connection Manager.
Well, someone also suggested to use the latest Sony Ericsson Connection Manager to make the connection since the Windows native method cannot guarantee what type of connection standard it will be able to use (you won't and can't force it to connect via EDGE/GPRS or HSPA/UTMS).
Now the connection manager can properly see and communicate with the card, as you can see here:

If, you don't understand, and you have the same wwan card and the same problem, just Download the modified Intaller and Enjoy ;)

Does your "hack"ed driver instalation allow the GPS functionality to work? Via COM-port emulation?

Also, we're talking Windows 7 here, right? I kind of get confused as to which WWAN cards work.

Maybe this is a dumb question too -- but will the 5530 work on all HDSPA-based networks that give SIM cards? I don't know a lot about cell technology unfortunately :(

    Hello.
Not a dumb question, so... only the GPS is the thig what i cant get to work, i try this port emulation, what kind of softeare try to check?
I try whit Telenor and it worked good on HSDPA network, so only the GPS function is not working at the time, but when you tell me how can i test this port emulation, then i will check it for you.
