    Hello

Only just noticed this but on my Vostro 1500 I can only use the Roxio software if my notebook has an internet connection.

If I try to use it without the software does not load at all, stating it has stopped working.

I think it is down to the fact it is a Roxio Dell OEM install. I have registered and still no joy. I have read reports of this being the case with other Dell machines. I am sure it is not a software or hardware issue.

Surely, they would not give you a product that has to be used only when a net connection is present??

If it were a limited trial, and you had come to the end of that trial, it is forseeable that the software would attempt to dial home (in this case to Roxio) in order to a) flag a website prompting you to buy it, and b) to locate registration keys to 'unlock' the full software once you had.

Perhaps you might like to try InfraRecorder. It's completely free and does all that the Roxio burning software does in much the same style of interface.

Roxio is a real pain, Dell have completely embedded it into their OS builds, so to remove it is a bit more of an effort.

That said, I would say it's worth going to the effort to strip it out and use an alternative. InfraRecorder is a great free offering, Nero is the benchmark utility in the pay-ware world.
