Thanks to all who responded to my D620 vs. D420 post. I have decided to go with the 420 for the weight/portability. I am pricing them on eBay, and there are several models that come with a 3 or 4 year warranty. The sellers claim I can transfer the warranty to me, but I wanted to be absolutely sure that is the case.
Three calls to Dell have resulted in complete frustration - one woman tried to sell me an XPS 1210 instead and two other women needed to know my service tag, which of course I don't have, before they would help me... arrghhhh.
Does anyone here know for sure? Has anyone used a transferred Dell warranty on a product purchased second hand or on eBay?
Thanks again.

I sold a 600m laptop on ebay and successfully transferred it's remaining warranty to the buyer.

Yes, you can transfer the Dell warranty. It's done online via tag transfer form(s).
Here's the International Tag Transfer form, http://www.dell.com/dhs/globaltagtransfer, with links at the top for the domestic versions. -
Keep in mind here that it can take up to 30 days to successfully transfer from one person to another. This is from the date it was initiated.
(Should be) simple warranty question...
