I asked for a replacement for my E1705, because of the bottom dark corners (too dark). I thought it was a defect, but Dell showed me what a REAL defect looks like:

Anybody get one of these special edition E1705s?

What the hell is that? A nipple?

Reminds me of the Family Guy where Peter and Chris try to get Gumble to Gumble back on the air by using the Make a Wish foundation...
I believe that the dark corners are a known issue in the e1705 and I think, not sure, but I think that it is not a defect, but rather a side effect of the manufacturing process. However without pics/seeing it in person we can't really tell if there is a problem. -
It appears that other people have the problem with the dark corners. Should I ask for another LG lcd, or do all LG lcds have this problem? I really like the LG screen that I have right now, except for the corners.
This is what my lcd looks like:

BTW, the LG is a lot better than the Sharp lcd. -
i have that dark corners but it does not bother me that much as it do not have anything there
-
i have the same dark corners... but it's ok. and way better than SAMsung LCD.
-
LMAO I remember that episode -
i have the same dark corners on my e1705 and my friend has the same dark corner on her e1705.
since you have the LG screen, i would keep it unless if there was a bigger problem with the monitor. if you send for a replacement, its possible that you will get a samsung screen in return. -
hey all, ive just bought an inspiron 1300 and have the same darkened marks in the bottom 2 corners. does this indicate its an LG screen? how can you tell the manufacturer of the screen?
btw this was the only forum which had details of this problem, i spent half the day thinking i had a faulty laptop lol.
thanks in advance for any replies.
EDIT: ok i just checked and its an LPLA screen so i guess its LG and this is normal. -
What is it ???

i have they AU Optronics screen and have the same thing. doesnt bug me that much
-
that must be the drain plug for whatever's inside

Didn't understand the pictures... where is the LCD shots?
-
1505, LG screen, dark corners. its due to the light spreader and the thickness (or lack of) in the lid. They just arnt as good as bigger lcd monitors.
-
Got the same thing here...
Does anyone hear a creaking/spring noise when closing their lcd screen? -
I think all the LG's have this, but i'm not sure. I know mine is an LG and it has the dark corners. I wouldn't trade this screen for any other! The colors really pop off the screen, and the backlighting seems even, beside the corners. You really only notice it on the bottom right for me, because the bottom left is start, and on MCE the Start button has a shading anyway, so even on my desktop pc you see it, just not as dark.
-
This must be a by-product of the manufacturing process. I just noticed this on my screen, and I have an AUO screen. You know, sometimes I hate it when I read threads like these... keeps making me notice things about my notebook that I don't like.

I've got this problem on my Toshiba A100 JH2

I have the same issue, I think. It shows up as dark shadows in both the right and left hand lower corners. I have an Inspiron 9400 which is the Asian version of the E1705. Attached is a picture of mine. It actually looks much darker in real life because the screen is so bright. It's more evident when looking at the corner from an angle rather than straight on.
Does anybody NOT have this problem?
How do you tell if you have an LG or Samsung screen?
