Simple...Installed Windows 7, everything was working fine...till today when the dvd drive isn't recognized by windows. Nothing in my computer..
I can insert/eject a disc only during the boot sequence.
    Any idea?
    Thanks

Found the "problem". It seems that when not connected to the AC adapter, the dvd is disabled. Any idea how to enable it?

Try checking your bios, or device manager > properties

It's definitely going to be in some sort of Dell management tool, Windows power management, or BIOS.

The Latitude series uses a program called "ControlPoint" where you can choose to disable assorted devices in the computer (including optical drive) to save power. I'd expect that's what's happening to you now.

The Studio series doesn't have the ControlPoint software, or anything like it.
