    Hi all,

In an especially senior moment the other month I managed to knock my housemate's laptop (Dell Inspiron 6000) onto the floor. I tripped over the power cable, pulling it along a table, which it then fell off.

The table's about 2ft high and the floor's laminate.

Not long after the drop my housemate noticed that the laptop was not quite right - everything 'stuttered'. To explain: the scrolling through any drop-down menu is now jerky, and videos have become completely unwatchable (though the sound seems unaffected).

He's since spoken to someone who speculated that the problem may be related to virtual memory brought about by damage to the RAM. He also suggested that the CPU could have been damaged - leading to over-heating and the above symptoms.

Anyone agree/disagree, or got any other ideas what the problem might be? It seems very likely to be a hardware problem given the recent fall, but any sort of ideas for software type problems would be very welcome (and might save me money)! :p

Also, any recommendations as regards somewhere (UK based) to go to get laptops looked at/fixed?

    Thanks in advance,
    Rob
