Most of you have probably seen the new deal going on with the XPS M1330.
What I'm wondering is why Dell is practically giving the XPS away? 800 bucks off of one of their top-of-the-line laptops? That's WAY to good of a deal, honestly.
Is it possible Dell might be getting ready to introduce a new M1330 predecesor?
Also, has anyone here taken advantage of this deal yet?
Thanks in advance.

Whats up with the graphics card option? Does anyone know what it is?
-
That is a steal.
It appears that you have to get it with the 8400GS. -
LOL, "practically giving it away"?? Reading that I thought it was only around $300... -
Well, I see it as "giving away". The before price for me is about $2200.

Just curious b/c I just ordered a 1420. -
-
Well, I doubt the HP dv2700 is as sexy as the M1330.
Onlycurious: There were no problems with the 1420 that I had. I simply returned it because I had gotten tired of it, and had my eye set on the M1330. -

What are you talking about ? You can hardly configure a Vostro or an inspiron with a coupon for 1299 having those specs ! And here we are talking about an ultra portable XPS with a much better design ! -
So I just received a 1330 within the past week. What's the likelihood of getting some money back from Dell now that my configuration is about $600 less?

The 3 GB memory comes standard with the $799 off deal: would the 3 GB memory be faster than the 2 GB memory when say, starting up the laptop?

According to my sources, Dell wants to show an increase in revenue in general and an increase in XPS sales in particular for the last quarter of 2007.
Dell isn't taking a hit by offering such a huge discount. Infact they are making good profits from the current sales while increasing their sales numbers.
XPS customers (despite the delays and initial teething issues) are the happiest customers in the entire Dell's lineup. M1330 has attracted new customers who earlier wouldn't have been caught with a Dell.
Infact I have witnessed many die hard Apple fans buying an M1330 after waiting for a replacement for their 12" PowerBook that never showed up. If the rumored Apple's ultraportable in January 2008 really doesn't have an optical drive, I forsee many of them switching to M1330 as the next best alternative. (So far 60% of the people I polled want an integrated optical drive)
Starting 2008, there will be better discounts on the XPS line to entice customers to higher end models. The XPS Gaming Specials will get even better.
There won't be any successor to M1330 and M1530 till Penryn-Montevina is available. -

I took advantage of this deal and placed an order yesterday! I think it is an awesome deal. I got $799 off, $200 giftcard, $70 giftcard, 12% off EPP and 4% off DPA so I ended up saving over $1300 off the retail price. I have never seen Dell do a deal like this. Granted I had to buy it with all the high-end options but the discounts made it worthwhile! Now the hard part....waiting!! lol

Unfortunately, specials and promotional pricing are NOT included in their "guarantee." Oh, well. I obviously would've loved to save the extra $$, but honest to god, I'm so thrilled with my new laptop and how quickly they got it to me that I just don't care. -
-
I love the new deal, however, my only concern is that with all those upgraded components, heat might become an issue. What would be the difference between the Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0ghz and the 2.2ghz in terms of heat? What about the 160GB (5400 RPM) and the 7200 RPM drive?

The only thing holding me back now is the cpu whine, i don't care about the performance boost penryn will give, but i hope the whine is gone!
