So I reordered my 1520 today to upgrade to complete coverage (for only $50) and I had a somewhat unique experience. I ordered from the university of Texas at Austin and the Sales rep taking my phone call ended up being a UT student too. He told me that sales reps are allowed to knock up to $75 off every dell as long as you are stubborn and persistent. They're required to offer $50 off first and then go down to $75 if you keep insisting.

Not going to reveal my rep's name but I thought this was pretty cool. He gave me the $75 off no hassle; I could hear him argue with the Sales Desk for me. =)

Just wanted to let you guys know.

Yea, I was persistent and stubborn, and they knocked off $75 dollars, then they matched HP's 2GB memory upgrade, which was $125 compared to Dell's 2GB upgrade of $150, so I ended with a $100 total instant discount. :D

Haha, that's great. I guess this would "stack" onto whatever coupons you might have applied, too? Sweet.

So, it sounds like the best way to go is to price it online, call, give them the same specs/coupons/whatever, and keep bugging them for another $75 off. I love it.

I wonder what our local "Moral Police" are going to think about this one...

A break like that is probably because you missed a discount somewhere, or a cheaper alternative configuration. You'll find much bigger breaks when you get up that high versus an $1,100 system.

Hey, does anyone know if this $50 or $75 off "persistence" discount is applied before or after any percent-off discounts? I can get 6% off any system priced at $1600 or more with my student discount, and my system is priced at $1601 now (or something like that :)). If I try to get this $75 off discount, will the base price drop down to ~1525 before the percent-off discount (which would make it drop down to 4% off), or would the $75 off be applied after the (6%) percent-off discount?

    Thanks.

Mine was applied after. At the very end he said something to the tune of "You know what, i'll just knock $75 off that for you. How's that sound?"

    :)
