I'm pretty sure the inspiron 1520 you ppl all ordered cost considerably less than similarly speced alternatives.
if the noisy headphone deal bother you that much you can "fix" that with an Creative X-FI expresscard.

i'm sure even after the additional $70 the laptop is still alot cheaper than the competition, not only is the noisy headphone problem solved you end up with a much better sound card than any stock laptop sound option.

I'll wait for the Echo Indigo, much better than XFI, has jacks on the sides, which makes it easier and also has a volume control on the card, which is very convenient.

The Echo Indigo is PC card only. Not expresscard, and acording to their website, there's no plans for expresscard version at this time

My X-Fi express card is on the way with my 1520. My question is: will the card stick out the side of the laptop?

I guess I will find out soon, but I am getting impatient. :)

Yes it sticks out of the side, but not that much really, probably 1 cm or so. It's worth the buy, especially if you want 5.1 sound.

The point is it shouldnt be a problem in the first place. Dell should be providing new audio cards but I dont see that happening.

Is there a difference between the "Creative Labs Express Sound Card" you get with the initial system, compared to the "ExpressCard Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme Audio Notebook Sound Card"?

They are made by the same company, and they cost almost the same.

But are they both radically different? Is buying the "card you provided in the topic link" really solve the headphone noise problem? Cheers.

I may get that with the $100 credit I hope to get from my GPU having DDR2 rather than GDDR3 :)
