Yeah the price is mighty tempting, but is the inspiron 1200 worth buying? I mostly do word procerssing but also play CD's and DVD's occasionally. anyone own one of these discount laptops? will it be an expensive paper weight in 6 months?
Was going to buy a IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad but don't want to wait 3 weeks to have it shipped from China. am also considering a Sharp mc24 which i can pick up at the local wholesale club ($899) which may be advantageous if i need to returnit. not that impressed with the local HP + Compaq offerings and sony and futjitsu are out of the question since i want to stay under $1000. averetec 3715 is another possibility.
thanks much!

Hm. The lower-end Dell Inspirons aren't great - not recommended. The quality is sub-par and the performance is horrible - even for the average user.
If you're willing to spend up to $1,000, I suggest looking at a ThinkPad R50e - much better laptop, and much more reliable.

Aye any notebook that sells for less than 600 dollars brand new, is a paperweight. You can get a low end i6000 for just around 630 dollars + shipping. :dell: But the computer will be slow as hell

If you are going inexpensive, I like this better:
