After figuring out that the audigy 'upgrade' was in fact just a software bundle, I was a bit irritated.
This is what I sent to Dell through the 'contact us' link. I got an answer back the same day saying a refund is on the way, and that I didn't have to send back the upgrade.
-
Yeah I realized this too after getting my new comp..
So, does this mean that we can install this upgrade on ANY computer, not just our Dell laptop?
And what exactly does this do for the computer if it is just software? How can sub-par speakers become not sub par just from some software? I would think you need better speakers!!!
If the "upgrade" was actually better speakers, it would be totally worth it, but a software upgrade is sort of a rip off. -
you mean that i have in mine e1705 software audigy ?
-
The Audigy sound boosts the clarity of the speakers, and really does make it a lot clearer.
its worth the $25 -
I agree with Nick, I happened to buy the audigy hd software from creative after my E1505 came in, and it did improve the sound.
-
-
thanks
it wont take any power from the core duo, its just another resource you have that is running the in the background (which is nothing)
I assume you didnt even try the software, once you found out it was a CD -
-
where can i find/download this software package
-
ugh, id pay $40 to use this software, its worth it. My M1710 is like my second home multimedia area (which it is) the software just brings so much clarity to it. Not to mention you can control the bass, speakers, sub woofer, and so on.
You can download this from the www.dell.com site, but you need a activation code,
No activation code, no Audigy sound -
so i recived this software with mine laptop, and i have it on cd ?
-
yes, it is on a CD
-
Is there any other option to upgrade this off of the Audigy site instead of having it sent by Dell and perhaps paying more for something that is just software related?
-
Yes there is,
1) http://support.dell.com/support/dow...=1&vercnt=3&formatcnt=1&libid=3&fileid=154291 go here and install the Audigy Invitation
and the: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...XPS_M1710&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=9326&libid=3 audigy drivers
On the new volume icon it installs, right click and select upgrade, a splash screen will pop up wiht a button that says upgrade now, click it and a creative ordering page will load, its $19 to get the upgrade from creative -
Agreed, I think the software is worth the 25 bux, made my e1405 sound soo much better, and now it sounds good.
-
I actually have 2 of the cds' but I agree, even though it is just software, my speakers are LOUD!
-
Say, the audigy option is not available for selection on the Inspiron 6400 here in Australia at the moment. Does this mean that the software would not work with the current model? I'm about to buy one and would lover to improve audio any which way I can. After reading this thread I'm convinced it's a good idea, but will it work on my future inspiron 6400?
-
it might "work", but the idea is fos to create a proprietary audio library and force people to use your software, especially when it performs no better than openal. maybe all of you are just addicted to bass though. can anyone npov compare this to the TruBass and SRS WOW effects in wmplayer and Music Match Jukebox's software enhancements?
-
The 6400 in the UK has the Integrated Audigy Advanced HD Audio Trial Version bundled in. Does anyone know what the trial version is? Is it just the same as pay £20 if you want to keep it?

It only recently was listed as software. Even as recently as the middle of June it was listed only as SoundBlaster Audigy Advanced HD Integrated Audio -- conveniently leaving out the fact it was software only.
I assume after compliants, it was changed. -
Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
I seriously started looking at dell notebooks in mid may, and it always said software
-
agree...at least for the mXX10 series it has always been a software option. The eXX05's may have been different at some point. OP did not specify if they purchased a inspiron or XPS. -
People should always click on the "help me choose" thing anyway, to make sure they know what they are getting. In the pop up window it's pretty clear that it in fact has no hardware acceleration and is indeed just software.
-
Oh yes, Nick was right. The Creative Audigy CD Software control the way how they play music on your speaker ( like power, volte,... ) because any diffirent kind of software or hardware of Sound ( include speaker and Sub,... ) they have many way to make " sound " on your music and the Creative is the best brand about music's Software Hardware. Try to hear many kind of music and you will figure out how good they are !!!
-
The Inspiron the main screen defintely did not say software. The pop-up was also very vague as well -- because I *DO* read all of those silly pop-ups and I consider myself savvy enough to understand -- I was about 80% sure it was software. I still did a search afterwards to verify and didn't order it. On the upside it did ship with it in demo mode, and I promptly uninstalled it.
The unfortunate truth is many people were misled because it didn't state Software specifically until the pop-up and was vague even then. -
lilredfoxie your 1st link in post 14 doesn't work....
Anyone have a screen shot of said software? I assume it has, bass, treble balance... anything else? -
the link works for me..
-
which one is the audigy software that is compatible with the inspiron 6400/e1505
this one?
http://support.euro.dell.com/suppor...eid=R110016&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=143273
or this one?

I'm about to order this for my 9400, but there is one question I have before I do go ahead with it.
Can anyone who has the Creative software installed let me know the following....?
If you double click on the speaker icon in the system tray, click on Options, the Properties, and click on the radio button for Recording, do you see the volume control for "What U Hear?"
The reason that I ask is that I want to use my laptop as a soundboard for the podcast that I record and I can't seem to find a work around that will let me do a live export of WAV or MP3 files without that setting.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. -
i personally feel its an extra and i regret buying it,
i would much rather buy an external sound card. i would have bought a Audigy PCMCIA card but my stupid E1505 laptop is already using the expresscard slot instead of a PCMCIA. there are not even any expresscard upgrades on the market for anything other than networking and USB adapters... -
gwhinwi, the 2 options i see there are just line in and microphone
my suggestion is this: if you want good audio, buy a laptop with built in 5.1 or higher support, or one with a PCMCIA slot, or buy an external sound card,
you cant polish a turd...
hehe -
You've got to be kidding me. The XPS listed it as an upgrade, not extra software. Even when I ordered it on the phone the sales person said "Do you want to upgrade the onboard sound to the sound blaster audigy".
So I basically paid $25 for software which I am promptly going to un-install. -
Soooo you are saying that the software does not improve the sound quality? I mean, if you bought it you might as well use it because it does noticablly improve the onboard audio.
I am sure that if you contacted Dell CS that they would give you some kind of concession worth $25.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -

The software improves the sound quality to me at least... of course if you got the M1210, the speakers are not going to pump out great sound, but through the headphones you do noticed an improvement in sound quality, but I am only going my experience.
-
I cant believe i paid for a $25 upgrade for a software i can freely download on their website. What was that all about? Any of you guys got a refund or something?
-
yep. read the very first post of this thread.
-
If you "chat" with Dell they will refund you the amount.
