For some reason my $200 dollar student coupon has been replacing the EPP instant savings. It didn't use to do that before. I was just wondering if that was happening to anyone else?
-
My $200 student coupon is canceling out the $253 off Inspirons (was $292 off a few days ago). Which I think is the instant savings you are talking about. So you're not alone.
I'm hoping it's because of a Fourth of July sale that we'll hear about in a few hours - if it is not then it is fairly significant problem. -
Looks like Dell is not allowing it to stack anymore. If you are looking wait for this week/weekend for potential deals due to the holiday.

I found a representative through sheer luck that let me stack them today, i dont have his name but when i contact him tomorrow and purchase my notebook i can post his extension and name so everyone else can get the savings. He also speaks english, and doesnt have a hard to hear accent. I'm sure he will be happy to help others too since he makes commission on every unit he sells.
-
i just emailed them since it wouldnt stack and they just processed a credit request for $200 to my credit card in place of the coupon, even though i already had an epp price.
-
@Apollo13
Yeah thats what I'm talking about but its weird because in my e-mail it says "This limited-time offer is in addition to your Dell
Student Discount, so be sure to shop now and maximize
your savings."
The EPP instant savings is suppose to be part of the Student discount so the wording of "addition" is suppose to mean it stacks. -
@lakerdude32
doesn't that mean you had to pay tax for the $200 which was unnecessary? -
lordofericstan Notebook Evangelist
@ shincloud
He isnt having that problem, i talked to dell today for literally 6 HOURS. The EPP instant savings doesnt technically exist, you are looking at the 200 dollar student discount, there is also the EPP discount, 4-12% off. What isnt stacking is the Stock Instant Discount, the 253 dollar discount on the student site, aka the 292 dollar on the main site. You CAN get them both, but the way i had to do it was get a hold of the right representative on the phone. I spent 6 hours trying to find one, once i get done with my purchase very early in the morning tomorrow and get his name and contact info I will post it if anyone needs it. -
@lordofericstan
Its weird that it doesn't exist because it says "Dell EPP/FSS Customers: Save $70 off select Inspiron 1521 systems!" at the cart which i consider to be part of the Student Discount. Dell makes things so complicated sometimes when your trying to get discounts. Why didn't they just leave it like it was yesterday (when it stacked online)...? It was like that for awhile why did they have the sudden urge to change it now.
P.S. thanks for posting up the name and contact info when you get it -

My best guess is that the coupons are making the inspiron sell way too fast? Im not sure if its true but one of the six sales representatives said that all of these promotions are going to stop friday, im not sure if its true or not but something to keep in mind.
I will be buying my notebook tomorrow around 10 in the morning and will post once im done and can be sure to give everyone the right info. I will post my specs and final price too. I am of course going to make sure its OK with him before hand. -
@shincloud yea i actually thought about that but then decided it wasnt worth the hassle for $16. But, the way they were freely handing out money on email- i'd bet another email could score that for me too.
-
My college didn't exist on the delluni site, so I called a rep and asked him if he would get mine, so i asked him what the price would come out to, and i noticed everyone was getting 200$ discounts... he said he has never seen that before, and it wasn't offered at many colleges... is this the right coupon ?
http://i8.tinypic.com/6hf7tao.jpg
the 200$ off in the middle + all the others, is how it SHOULD work, right? Because if that is how everyone else is doing it, then i'll have to call back, because he said i would not be able to. -
lordofericstan Notebook Evangelist
looks about right, you should get the 292 off, the 200 off, then 4-12% off depending on the warranty you choose.
Be sure to talk to more than one sales rep, i went through 6 before i found someone who knew what he was doing. -
I noticed something else too. You know how you can receive a $100 dollar coupon too if you sign up for that "My Gift Registry," well the coupon they sent me says its only $50 off when I enter it in the car, weird...On top of that it stacks with the $200 dollar coupon now. It use to be that those two coupons replaced each other but understandably. Now they stack...It makes no sense

I could not get the gift registry to work, and NO ONE at dell knows how. I could not click on any of the links in my email. How did you get it to work?

If this helps.. I got 4 different types of discounts, but this can vary from person to person.
1. The base discount
This includes the discounts that they show you on the site, usually for select systems or specs. Usually, the biggest discount is offered on the most expensive system in that category the furthest right) or a system that starts off with lower base specs (like the 1521 compared to the 1520's),
2. The protection package discount
The base package that gives you about 1 year on the home service, parts, labor, virus protection and yadda yadda does not come with any discounts. If you get the Dellcare Plus, this adds additional money to your base price, but also gives you a 7% discount on your total order. The premium package gives you a 10% discount.
3. The EPP discount
Not sure how this completely works, but for me, it was from making a purchase over $1600 dollars WITH a 3-4 year protection plan. This means getting at least the Dellcare Plus package, and having the total of your order after discounts be over $1600. This gave me an additional %12 off my order, AFTER all other discounts (including the student discount).
4. Student discount
This is given to people who have a university address (@edu) that is also accepted by Dell. This is usually a $200 discount, calculated before the EPP discount.
Hope this helps, please correct me if I'm wrong. But these are the discounts I got for my computer, so they will vary from system to system. My stats are listed as below.

@lordofericstan
I'm not really sure what problem you encountered but for me I just filled out the information and put in which computer i wanted to fund raise for then went to the "Manage your gift registry" link and there was a box that said click here to receive your 100 dollar coupon. when i clicked it, it sent it to my email instantly. when i opened up my email the coupon code was right there.
@Pwnstar
Yeah those were the discounts that people were able to get before today. For some reason #1 and #4 now replace each other. -
lordofericstan Notebook Evangelist
I couldnt get to any page with information on the gift registry page, could you send me like a log in link or anything?
-
Yea, i'm pretty sure that is how it SHOULD be, I called the dell rep to ask him if i could get a configuration, and use the 200$ coupon, he said he didn't know ANYTHING about it.. but I guess he probably should, since everyone is receiving one.....So I will have to wait for lord to post this guys EXT.
-Some people are receiving 100$ not 200$ discounts? I'm very confused how this is working now.
-So the 1,423$ spec on discounts won't work now? --Nevermind.. I'll just shut up and wait for lord to call that rep tomorrow, maybe he will say differently. -
lordofericstan Notebook Evangelist
I cant log in, its very frustrating. I will just see if my rep can do anything for me. Thanks though.
See you all in the morning, its past my bed time. -
@Tip
Yeah it seems like they are acting ignorant. How could they possibly not know. When someone calls the University, Employee, etc help line you kind of expect them to know whats plastered on there university website homepage delluniversity.com -
Eh, I'll try the local kiosk if no Fourth deals show up in the morning. Right frustrating though, how the deals keep changing right when I'm ready to buy. Well, no point in trying any more here, might as well see what the local shop is advertising in case this falls through...
