Confirmed information: This drive is a Seagate momentus 7200.2
Pricegrabber lowest is 154.99
-
I opted for one of these in my 1520 as I foresee myself using the laptop as not only a games machine, but also for a mobile music recording studio (I have a presonus firebox also)
I'd be interested to see some benchmark scores with the stock 5400rpm drive and the 7200. -
Are these new drives? That price is ridiculous if they are.
Here is a pretty good review comparing the Seagate 160GB 7200RPM drive to comparable 5400RPM ones:
http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/04/23/notebook_hdds_deluxe/
I was actually surprised by the difference in speed between the two. However, I recall the 160GB 5400RPM drive being similar to the 100GB 7200RPM in performance...I wonder how a 250GB 5400RPM would stack up against the 160GB?
I just figured for only $50 more, why not upgrade to the 7200RPM drive? -
Thanks for the tip. I just got one for my m1330. I think this is a cheaper way to upgrade because I can go ahead and sell the 120GB on Ebay and probably get 70 bux for it.
-
I ordered my M1330 with the 160GB/7200 drive option. Now I am really hoping it is going to be this HDD inside.
When looking at laptops one feature I wanted was the active hard drive shock protection but in the end one of the compromises I thought I was making with the M1330 was to go without it. However, reading the review, it sounds like this drive has built-in G-Force Protection.
Funny Dell don't mention it on their web page - Sometimes I think Dell undersell their products where other manufacturers use loads of hype not just about features/functionality but also choice of materials (which don't directly affect the end user). -
Will this HDD work in my m1330? Its talking about Lattitudes and such in the information.
-

-
-
That sounds very plausible to me - and one reason why Dell might not specify the G-Shock feature. I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

You can use a 10% off coupon from Ebay to get this drive down to around $110
-
Just got off the phone with Dell and they are telling me these only have a 1 year warranty .. Is this right ?
-
Seagate's manufacture warranty is 5 years on that drive, but I don't know if the Dell version is somehow only under warranty from them?
-
I opted for the 160GB 7200 HDD on my M1330 because I could upgrade to it for only $112. I hope it is indeed the Seagate Momentus 7200.2 that I get.

Mine shipped ! I will let ya'll know what drive and what kind of warranty it has very soon
-
Question if I have complete care on a laptop can I add this to my computer and be covered by the warranty ?
-
-
I just received my drive today. It is the ST9160823AS version and not the ST9160823ASG version with the addition G-shock protection. Either way, it was pretty good for $130 bux.

It cost $200 for this drive in my m1330 in Canada.
-
For comparison: on the China site the 160/7200 is an additional 1200RMB ($159)
[Can't remember if that is what I actually paid] -
Are these drives refurbished?
-
I ordered from Dell Home and got a brand new one.
-
There is a 15% off coupon that you can use to get this down to around $102
-
I talked to three different CS reps about my hard drive. They all said it was brand new with 1-year Dell (not Seagate) warranty. The warranty can be extended to whatever is left on your Dell laptop warranty, provided it is longer than 1-year obviously. -
-
This might be a dumb question but will this also work in my Dell 700m ?
