It will be better if you guys called after the order was shipped and recieved. I can see why some of the reps are balking at issuing credit before hand.

Also, if a Dell rep declines your request dont get mad, just be cool and ask immediately for a supervisor.

Yeah, I don't even know why you're all asking for money if your laptop hasn't reached you and you haven't personally been able to see that it indeed is clocked lower.

That would be like me going into Walmart, telling a salesperson that the TV on display isn't as good as the specs and I expect to be able to buy it for 50% off...

lol, although i doubt the chances of new 1520s having higher clocked cards than the ppl that alrdy got em, that made me laugh =)

Yeah, I doubt it as well - it wouldn't make any sense for Dell to procure multiple performance levels of the same advertised hardware - however my point stands. Until you actually get the product and see for yourself that your specific model is not as advertised, you have no grounds for the complaint.

Uh... That wouldn't work. Why can't I ask for credit? They already charged me; I paid already. I have the right to ask for it.

Because you do not know, as unlikely as it is this may all be a lie or one clever conspiracy plotted against you! ahh shoot i blew the secret..... and dell doesnt charge u until the item is shipped. You credit card will say pending until then.

You can also cancel your order or refuse shipment still, and Dell would be out $100.

Well I got my 1520 and the 8600m GT is underclocked. It's amazing how starved it is. I overclocked the RAM by only 40MHz and it kicked my doom 3 timedemo up from 59 to 64 frames per second.

Guys this might be a stupid question, as I'm fairly new to this game, can you tell me how you can determine whether you have the GDDR2 or GDDR3.

I should get my 1420 next week and I want to be able determine exactly what my laptop specs are. And if they aren't GDDR3, (which is what it should be) I figure that way I can get all self righteous and maybe have a better chance of getting a little something back.
    Thanks

I dont think $100 credit is all that helpful.

Do you think there is any chance they could upgrade my CPU from 2.0 to 2.2Ghz? Do they do that sort of upgrades, or is that the sort of thing that you have to cancel your oder and start over? (I dont want to lose my great coupon dscounts)

Yeah, that's what I am worried about. $100 would help me though, it just makes the deal a bit sweeter.

I doubt they would upgrade something like the processor, but when I called the rep offered either a free product or credit...I chose the $100 credit :p

if you really want your credit, PHONE after you get your lappie. i think its more reliable and more likely to happen.

first lady i got was some old woman. i used lots of ddr2/ddr3 technical/ bandwidth speed language, and shes like "i have to transfer you to another dept blah blah" and basically just passed me onto another rep because she had no clue what i was saying lol (who in return was much more willing to help me)

    oh and IRO the

No where did it actually say ddr3, on the specs page it says ddr2 "NVIDIA® GeForceTM Go 8600M GT with 256MB DDR2 dedicated graphic memory".

It's on the Help me choose button when you pick your video card that says 22.4GB/s which would be 700x2 when really it's coming clocked at 400x2 or 12.8GB/s.

They are being pretty nice about it since right below that area they have "Dell cannot be responsible for pricing or other errors, and reserves the right to cancel orders arising from such errors."

Hmm...You have to Email THEM to get the credit? what? Lol, Both of my credits (1 for $100, and 1 for $30) are being credited automatically after it ships. Although, I'am keeping both case #'s and them telling me they are giving me the credit so I can prove it if they wanna stiff me.

    **edit to be precise:

    Thank you for contacting Dell.

Thank you so much for the reply.

I will send the request to process the credit once the order get delivered to you.

Okay, I said this in another thread but I think it bears repeating--be SURE the person who says he/she will give you a credit is authorized to do so and gives you either a case number or a confirmation number. I have been told before I would receive a credit/it would be automatically applied after my order was invoiced only to be told that A) that person was not authorized to do so, and B) you must call/e-mail to have a credit applied after the order is invoiced.

well 100 dollar is the difference, i persume, between the 8600 gt and the 8600 gs and is also the amount that was offered to the OP. I called and they gave me a case number and offered to credit 200 dollar at first and then I realized that you don't actually get the money until later so you migh tas well not be greedy in case they actually find out something is wrong.

Here is part of my chat transcript today:

If I dont receive DDR3, after being promised it, you better believe I will demand a credit. Im not going to bother until I receive the laptop.

If I get DDR2, and they refuse a credit, Im simply returning the thing, and not dealing with Dell anymore.

DOesn't hurt to try it for ur 1330.

I'm definitely doing this once I get my 1520. I was already PI##ED as all heck when DELL switched up the minimum order price for the $300 coupon--my original order would have been <$1000 shipped and taxed. Now it's over $1200, and I want some $ back!

    GREEDY GREEDY GO GO! :D

Why? The Sager has GDDR2 memory as well.

Anywhere that may be useful will be too strenuous for the 8600M GT to take advantage of it. (As in, during the high resolution + AA + AF situations that are required to fill the large texture buffer, you'll be running into bottlenecks in other parts of the video card, most likely the memory bandwidth.)

Does anisotropic rly use that much memory bandwith? I can turn up Anisotropic to 16x in CSS on my ATi 9600XT (128MB AGP) and only lose like 10FPS.

No, it's mostly the resolution and especially antialiasing that really beat down on memory bandwidth. They're also big contributors to texture usage, so that's why you'll probably not run into too many cases where you'll really be able to take advantage of the 512MB VRAM.
