I managed to get yet another $100 credit on my 1520 order. This one concerns the misleading us into believing we got a 8600m GT GDDR3 when in fact we got more of a GDDR2. The first customer rep online gave me the credit without too much of a argument.
So my final total for my 1520 is $883

sesshomaru Suspended Disbelief!
That price is just too good....
-
-
I thought I got a good deal for my loaded 1505 at a little over $900 -
-
There is a whole thread on this issue....My credit will take effect once it ships -
Storm - Who did yhou talk to for the credit? Customer Care \ Tech Support or Your rep? Thx.
-
-
Where is the thread? I can not find it online...
-
Hey storm, what did you put as the "issue type"?
Wrong/Missing/Damaged? I think that's the closest to this issue, but that doesn't really feel right. Is that the one you chose? -
-
I think if it advertised the full bandwidth, we pay the full extra $100...with half that bandwidth, we should pay half
I want $50 back for half the graphics card. -
I just got off the online chat with customer care - they said contact tech support and I did - Tech Support said - we cant help you with this. Chatted online again and customer support says call EPP. Round and Round we go.....
-
-
Guy I've been talking to hasn't said anything for the last 40min...some service
-
I just got off with EPP customer care - They gave me the $100 credit for when my order ships and bumped me to next day ship. My total Order came out to $1380 so I can't complain about clock speeds too much....
-
It's a crap shoot as to if you get the right agent online who will give the credit. I have found that the peeps from India are the ones to chat with.
-
I've been sitting in customer chat for 1 1/2 hours now, and the guy hasn't said anything in over an hour ever since I explained the bandwidth issue.
-
Sometimes their chat software screws up and the session has ended even though it looks like you are still chatting with someone. -
I reconnected and the lady says I need to contact warranty support? What are you guys saying that makes them understand?
-
reiterate that it is false advertisement and a customer support issue and that other people got a $100 credit from customer care. -
I called support; they wouldn't give me a credit BUT they have my complaint on record (along with a case #) and when I receive my Dell they asked if I could call them and have tech support check out my claim. If it was as I stated I would be due reimburshment.
-
I'm somewhat computer illiterate. Can someone post something I can copy/paste onto the chat screen to explain the problem? I would probably confuse them more if I tried to explain it.
-
I've been chatting online with like 10 different people, and I've literally been educating them with what the issue is. No one knows what I'm trying to say, so then they will just make up some bull**** and be like we need to transfer to you the shipping department... SHIPPING?!?! Okay, that never happened, but it's like that.
I've had to explain multiple times what the difference is between DDR2/GDDR3. I am explaining it very clearly too, but they just don't understand.
I'm still yet to get a lucky Dell Rep. -
Finally after giving up on chat I went to phone. Took a few transfers but I found a very helpful woman. For my transfer issues she upgraded me to next day shipping, but told me since the notebook has not shipped yet any credit will be canceled. She emailed me a case number, told me she'd call me when the package was sent and when it was delivered to follow up with the claim. Before getting off she asked if I would hold for the manager, who then got on and told me the credit will be applied when my laptop ships. I talked up the rep to the manager a bit since she actually took the time to work on my case.
I'm used to dealing with the small business tech who usually do a great job. It just took some hunting till I found a concerned rep in home support. -
-
Send them links to threads talking about the problem. That helped me with getting my remote shipped.
-
This is how I explained it to them...
Nick Webb: "Dell clearly states that the graphics card that comes with the 1520 is a nvidia 8600m GT GDDR3....However, everyone who has received their 1520's have reported that the memory clock speed is only 400mhz which would correspond to 12.8 GB/s not the 22.4 GB/"

07/11/2007 08:14:12AM Nick Webb: "Customer service is the only people who can issue compensation. Several people have already received $100 credits because of Dell's illegal false advertising of this graphics card"
07/11/2007 08:16:31AM Agent (Varinder Kaushal): "Nick, this order is in production, I can not issue any credit for this order. I request you to contact Order Modification department."
07/11/2007 08:16:55AM Nick Webb: "Once it has been shipped can issue the credit?"
07/11/2007 08:18:14AM Agent (Varinder Kaushal): "Yes, credit can be issue only once the order is invoiced."
07/11/2007 08:18:39AM Nick Webb: "Can you issue the credit once my order has been shipped"
07/11/2007 08:18:54AM Nick Webb: "Will you issue the credit once shipped?"
07/11/2007 08:19:39AM Agent (Varinder Kaushal): "Only after checking the configurations."
07/11/2007 08:19:55AM Nick Webb: "What do you mean?"
07/11/2007 08:20:15AM Agent (Varinder Kaushal): "If the configurations are not according to the advertisement, only then we can issue the credit."
07/11/2007 08:20:59AM Nick Webb: "So as long as my laptop ships with the nvidia 8600m GT card, then I will get the credit?"
07/11/2007 08:22:21AM Agent (Varinder Kaushal): "Yes, only then you can get the credit."
07/11/2007 08:22:47AM Nick Webb: "Just to confirm, that is a $100 credit correct?"
07/11/2007 08:23:24AM Agent (Varinder Kaushal): "It again depends on the configuration of the system."
07/11/2007 08:24:43AM Nick Webb: "what exactly would it dependon on as far as configuration goes if it has that graphics card"
07/11/2007 08:26:52AM Agent (Varinder Kaushal): "I apologize for the delayed response."
07/11/2007 08:26:53AM Agent (Varinder Kaushal): "Nick, I have checked the configurations and we can offer you $100." -
is the ddr2 / ddr3 issue only with 8600 gt? or does it also apply to the GS card?
-
woa..mite be able to apply this towards the m1330 aswell!
-
I am tlaking to a dell rep right nwo and he is being a dick. He keeps interrupting me and also doesn't listen to what I say. I explained it to him thousands of times and he doesn't even understand. He keeps saying look, we get the cards and we install them. We assume it's clocked at the speed nVidia gave us. I said, you assume, so have you tested it? Then he saids teh same thing. What a dick.
-
I just called, and got an $100 credit on my 1420 w/ 8400GS

lordofericstan Notebook Evangelist
what stage of production are your notebooks in and did you use any coupons when you bought them? I'm wondering if i should wait until i have my system before i call.
-
-
lordofericstan Notebook Evangelist
It probably would be easier to get credited once you get your notebook.
-
He keeps saying that they would replace it if something was wrong. Technical support can fix it. MY GOSH!
-
.... interesting ....
-
Yea I contacted them, I got a little angry with the price drops (free 2gb upgrade and 160gb hdd upgrade) and then the 8600gt problem. They gave me $75 back on my order, guess thats better then nothing.
-
This guy keeps trying to get me to contact sales department, even after i said they cannot do anything 5 times. He says i can modify my order and i said no i can't. omg this is going to take a while.

6:12:18 PM System Sachin Dhar has joined this session!
6:12:18 PM System Connected with Sachin Dhar
6:12:23 PM Sachin Dhar Thank you for contacting Dell Customer Service Chat. My name is Sachin. How may I help you?
6:12:28 PM Sachin Dhar Hello.
6:12:37 PM Minjian Cui Hi
6:13:09 PM Minjian Cui I purchased an laptop under the assumption that the 8600M GT graphic card would ahve DDR3 ram because that was what the dell website had listed.
6:13:26 PM Sachin Dhar All right.
6:13:54 PM Minjian Cui However, it is definitly equipped with DDR2 ram. This would be a huge performance difference. I had purchased this laptop to replace my current dell mainly for gaming reasons.
6:14:49 PM Minjian Cui I feel that I was mislead and that this is false advertisement because I did not get what I had pay for.
6:15:48 PM Sachin Dhar I apologize for inconvenience.
6:15:53 PM Sachin Dhar How may I help you?
6:16:52 PM Minjian Cui Many others who also purchased their laptops with the 8600M GT video card have been compensated with a $100 credit either right away or after their laptop was shipped.
6:17:35 PM Minjian Cui I feel that this is the least that could be done because teh false advertisement has lead me to purchase a computer that will not be able to handle what I had purchased it for.
6:18:43 PM Sachin Dhar Let me check that for you.
6:18:50 PM Minjian Cui ok
6:19:48 PM Sachin Dhar I suggest you speak with Sales Department as they would be able to assist you better.
6:19:53 PM Sachin Dhar You may call them at 1-800-915-3355 between 7am - 11pm CST Monday to Saturday. You may also chat with them from 10am to 9pm CST Monday to Friday. The link is http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/en/chat?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs.
6:20:35 PM Minjian Cui Customer service is the only people who can issue compensation. Several people have already received $100 credits because of Dell's illegal false advertising of this graphics card
6:20:48 PM Minjian Cui Sales Department would not be able to do anything.
6:21:43 PM Sachin Dhar I truly understand your issue, however regarding this issue Sales will be happy to help you.
6:22:01 PM Minjian Cui Will they be able to issue compensation?
6:23:05 PM Sachin Dhar I apologize, as regarding this issue I request you to please contact sales.
6:23:42 PM Minjian Cui I have ordered the best graphic card that dell offers. It is not equipped with the same type of ram that Dell has advertised. My order cannot be upgraded anymore regarding the graphics card. What good would it do for me to contact the sales department.
6:24:08 PM Sachin Dhar You can modify your order.
6:24:43 PM Sachin Dhar with different graphic card.
6:25:23 PM Minjian Cui It will not help to modify my order. I have the best graphic card that dell carries. Dell does not have the DDR3 ram on the 8600M GT. The other graphic cards are equipped with the DDR2 ram also. Dell has falsely advertised their product and I was mislead by it.
6:26:49 PM Minjian Cui The only thing that can be done is to issue a credit. I cannot upgrade the graphic card anymore; therefore, sales department would not be able to do anything
6:26:58 PM Sachin Dhar I apologize as regarding this issue I can not process Compensation.
6:27:21 PM Minjian Cui Who can then? it is the customer services's responsibilty to do so.
6:28:48 PM Sachin Dhar Minjian, please contact sales regarding this issue or you can contact order modification department to modify your order if you wish to do so, however I can not go ahead and process the compensation for this issue.
6:29:53 PM Minjian Cui So you cannot issue a compensation for dell's false advertisement. Thank you for your time. -
Call in instead of using chat. The chat is all pre-scripted responses and usually will get you nowhere.
-
haha ya but i was short on time. Didn't know if i had tiem for them to send me through 50 different reps.
-
After the rep tried to redirect me to sales 3 times and i said no, i fnalyl got a credit for when it ships
-
can you chat if you are not in home office
-
They wouldn't chat with me because I used student discount; I have to go through another department for customer service.
-
Do you think they might get pissed if I call to complain about the graphix card, lack of remote, and faster shipping all at the same time? Maybe I should place 2-3 separate calls.
-
i did that actually, no big deal. btw idiot servant, that is a very cheap alptop, i'm always shocked at how people get such great deals nowadays, care to let me in on how you did it?
-
THAT IS WHAT I AM SAYING! HE SAVED $200 MORE THEN ME! and got a better battery
-
I got kinda lucky. I bought the day before they introduced the free RAM and HD upgrade, and used the $350 coupon. The next morning I saw the freebies, canceled my old order, and reordered. I understand you could only use the coupon and freebies in conjunction for about 12 hours. That's why I'm hesitant to call, maybe they'll change my price back...
