~**Which SSD should I buy? (4 options)**~

Ok, so I'm about to buy XPS 17 (L702X). Right now, I want to buy SSD for it (to install the Windows 7 on it, and heavy++ games). So now, I have 4 options... which is the best? less issues? the fastest?

damn they are all sooooo pricey!!!! LOL a lot of people swear by the Vertex i say go crucial and be different!!

 

Vertex 3 MAX IOPS would be the fastest

 

There are some reports in this forum of compatibility issues with the OCZ drives/controller and the XPS systems. I vote Crucial (M4 just came out which replaced the C300).

 

I bought a 120GB Intel 510 Series for $249 on Buy.com.

Reliability matters.

 

i have a Vertex 240GB (none max-iops ) and yes you have to know what your must do with installl (use the latest Intel F6 driver at install time) and disable the LPM after that through a registry setting.

But when done that i am very content with my Vertex, it is way faster then my previous intel 160GB G2

I tryed to match it with XPS (L702X) didn't find any able SSD for it... but doe XPS (L701X) it showed me this model....

 

If reliability matters, I'm not sure why you ordered from Buy.com!

 

$71 cheaper than newegg, and verified by Intel to have a 3 year warranty direct from Intel

 

About the 4K, Intel's SSD fail...
So I think I will go for Crucial M4, no?

I'm buying a Crucial m4. The Intel drive is nice but you are paying a lot for the brand name. m4 is faster where it matters. Intel has the lowest SSD failure rate.

 

I have the Crucial c300, runs damn fast. I didn't go through all the benchmarking but the ones I saw online the c300 was real good for the 4k benchmarks. The m4 is the newer version, if you wanted to keep cost down you may be able to get a c300 for a slightly lower price. I picked up the 128GB for $200.

I'm not sure on how much more performance you will get. Also does your's have the sata 6Gbits/s? My l501x only has the sata 3Gbits/s. For the higher end transfers is what I'm referring to.

@ The couple vertex references, they have had quality control problems since switching to 32nm from their previous 45nm technology. They didn't repackage or change serial numbers that made it easy to distinguish the old from the new, so I would stay away from it for the time being until they get it under control. I was very much leaning towards getting a Vertex for a while.

 

I don't know... Intel has the lowest issues, no?

I know the random speeds on the 510 are a bit slow, but compared to what? It's still going to be blazing fast compared to a regular HD and I really wonder if the difference is noticeable or just measurable.

Besides, Intel may release a firmware update that will speed up random...either way, no speed increase is worth a decrease in reliability.

Just look at the newegg reviews for the 510 and the c300 for example. For the 510, There is 1, (ONE), actual bad review, the other bad reviews are from macbook owners. There is quite a bit more poor reviews for the c300 and both drives have the same amount of reviews...

 

I'm talking about Intel 510 SSD SATA III and Crucial M4 SATA III...

 

You won't find many reviews on the M4 right now since it got released only a few weeks ago if I remember right. So the c300 will be your best reliability comparison since the m4 is it's replacement.
