Have you checked in your device manager to see if the camera is reported there? If you check the properties of this it will confirm if there are any hardware issues? What software do you have running that may use the webcam? (Messenger Live, Skype, etc). Try closing all these applications and then re-starting the webcam.

If the webcam is not in the device manager section (or some unknown device) then it sounds like you have a hardware problem. Download a copy of the service manual as it should tell you where the cable connects to the main board. Have you had any work done on your laptop that may have dislodged this?

If the device is displayed ok then I would try completely removing all related software and drivers for the webcam, rebooting and then installing the drivers again.

The fact that it did work but now does not seem to be sounds more hardware related but it could be down to a new piece of software or driver recently installed?
