Is it normal? I have the SSD so it shouldn't make any sounds but whenever I boot up the DVD drive acts up a little bit (like it's trying to read a DVD) ...

the slot loading drive kinda 'tests' itself when booting... if u dont want the sound, put in a blank CD in there and leave it there... wont have that sound during bootup

Sadly his responce and your question are true. It does seem to make the noise of a dying cat and thus putting a CD in it is advisable lol

    Its normal, so dont worry.

    @ own3d:

How do you know that cats make that noise before they die? Do you kill cats?

Great tip about the CD, I doubt I'd have thought of the idea since I hate keeping CDs in my CD drive, it laggs "My Computer" when you open it and it tries to check what CD's in your drive ...

Saying "My Computer" I didn't mean my system, I mean actually opening the folder "My Computer" (maybe you already got that). I just tried it with an empty CD and yup, you're right, it doesn't try to read it in any way, cool, I'll have to bring an empty CD for my m1330 wherever I go :D.

Just be careful to remember that the disc is in the drive. It is all too easy to put another disc in the drive, having forgotten the original one, and have a real mess on your hands. Trying to get the disc(s) out is near impossible without a call to Dell which is not under warranty unless you have complete care. From own painful experience, lol!
