Got a 1647 and I was just about to pick up a Dell u3011 and its native reso is 2560x1600...

I remember when I posted frequently here last year, a lot of people had issues being able to drive 2560x1600 off a STudio XPS 16.

I have a 1647 w/ the 4670 1gb vid card...Will I be able to drive 2560x1600 off the display port? Ive heard so many conflicting answers...

I want to figure this out before the sale is over..

It'll display just fine, but you going to have issues trying to game at that resolution.

I dont care about gaming...I've just read so many threads and posts saying it wont even display 2560x1600...I wanna make sure 100% before I pull the trigger.

Sure Dell and even the manuals say it works but why are so many users reporting otherwise?

They don't have the latest drivers, they are doing a conversion (doesn't make sense as the SXPS 16 has HDMI), or they have a bad motherboard/TV/cable.

HDMI v1.2 doesn't support 2560x1600, which is what Dell implemented in the studio line. You need a hdmi 1.3 computer and monitor (still new/rare) to get 2560 out of an hdmi connection

The only thing that is capable of outputting 2560x1600 from the laptop is the displayport and from what I read Dell didn't implement a + or ++ version, hence why it can't properly support the 2560x1600...

hmm guess there is only one way to find out!

    You were right.

Running 2560x1600 off my laptop just fine :)

And dual screen with the native 1080p RGBLED + 30" dell monster at 1600p

That is not true. You indeed need an HDMI 1.3 connection to output an higher resolution than 1200p, there isn't a single monitor or video card that actually supports that. This is because higher resolutions, 2560×1600p60@30bit are actually optional to HDMI 1.3/4....

For anything higher than 1200p, you need displayport. Wich should support up to 3840×2160x60hz@30bpp.
