    Hi,

I will be purchasing a laptop soon and have a couple of questions.

What is the difference between the High Resolution Glossy Widescreen LED LCD screen and the Full High Definition Glossy Widescreen?

What is the difference between built-in wireless USB and Bluetooth? Which of these is more beneficial and best to have?

I am having a hard time deciding what to pick for these options.

    Thanks!

LED LCD's are generally thinner and use less power. should be very bright.

hi-def or WUXGA (1920x1200 resolution) screen is like a 1080p lcd. u have ALOT more room on yur screen for multitaskin. some might find the icons/words to be too small. i personally use a WUXGA screen and i will not be switchin back to a lower resolution screen...ever.

yur best bet would to go to a high end computer store and compare 2 different laptops side by side. one with a lower native resolution screen, and one with a 1920x1200 native resolution screen. thats the only way u'll really "feel" and see the difference.

and the built-in bluetooth option is just that...say if u bought a blue tooth mouse. u wouldn't need to connect the usb adapter, yur laptop should be able to pick it up.

first, i have the full high def screen 1900 by 1200 pixels,
if you are looking for high and fancy HD content, go for this screen, if not the LED screen will be great also, with the bonus of being lighter, more power efficient and brighter,

built in wireless USB needs a USB hub, meaning you can connect USB connections wirelessly,

Bluetooth is a wireless connection used for any purpose, from file transfer to another bluetooth laptop, to sync with a bluetooth mouse or keyboard, or even a cell phone, its a very useful tool

so its really your decision, depends if think its gonna be useful or not

built in Wireless USB is crap... dont buy it

    a) waste of money
    b) low range
    c) slow
    d) just plain crap.... get a (powered) USB hub instead

i would choose bluetooth, but since u only have a little idea what it is, u probably have no use for it(maybe bluetooth mouse)

    e) have u looked at the xps coupons, or do u have access to Dell EPP? (college studnet or employee of comopany participating in dell epp?)

Thanks for the replies & advice!

You are right, I don't know much about bluetooth. I use a wireless mouse on my desktop, but I guess that is possible w/o the bluetooth? It looks like I could buy something for $80 that will enable access to my printer via bluetooth. I will probably want to use a wireless mouse. I guess I'll add it since it is only $20.

Will be using the laptop for photo/video editing. Thanks for the advice on the powered USB hub.

I'm planning to use one of the 25% off coupons. Looks like it is currently the best deal...or do you know of any other specials? Thanks!!

correct me if i'm wrong, but i think the built-in usb/bluetooth comes as a package upgrade.

the range with bluetooth wireless products is alot better than yur regular usb wireless products. u can get up to 20-30 ft with blue tooth. u can also link yur phone, printer, etc with bluetooth.

if u have access to Dell EPP, it might be cheaper there....

    you can just order bluetooth(for $20?) or Bluetooth+WUSB(for $100?)

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,301460,00.html

keep hearing about bandwidth problems with WUSB... u can try with $100, but im sure the price point will disappoint u

Thanks, I checked my EPP, but the 25% off coupon is coming out lower. Amazon has a Sony VAIO 17" Digital Studio Laptop VGN-AR750E/B for $1299, (T8100 processor, 4GB RAM, 320 HD, Blu-Ray) do you know if Dell matches prices on similar items? The Dell I want is pricing out at around $2500 w/ tax after the 25% off.

Keep in mind WUSB is not the same thing as Bluetooth. They are sort of like competing products in a way, but Bluetooth has the definite lead. You will practically never use the WUSB or the Bluetooth, and even if you do, you will most likely use Bluetooth and not WUSB just because WUSB is not as popular due to Bluetooth's rising dominance.

    dell doesnt do price matches....

slightly below $1500 without tax with a 5% stackable EPP coupon

comes with BluRay, T8300, 4GB, 4 yr warranty
but with LED LCD(1440x900), cant change to high-res 1920x1020... (maybe phone calls to Dell CSRs might work, but YMMV)

That looks pretty good. I'll try this again tomorrow through my EPP to see if I can get the price down. Thanks for all of the help!

I didn't check with the 1530 I just ordered but all the past dells I have bought I did better with a coupon than the EPP program and there were more options available than with the EPP program.

ah sorry about that. thanks for the correction. in that case i would definitely get the internal bluetooth without the WUSB. u could find it very useful.
