When I dim (Fn + down arrow) the screen it goes black after 3-4 strokes, and it does not allow me to brighten the screen, and I have to restart. This just started recently, shortly after I had to get my screen replaced by dell. Previously, 5-6 strokes got a black screen -and- allowed me to brighten. I'm using Dell Quickset, and Im about to disable to see if that affects anything.

Has anyone else had this problem? solutions?

    Thanks.

Yes, i have the same problem. Since i got my screen replaced to a CMO1309 i have this issue. As far as i know, this is the problem of the integrated intel display driver. If you switch to the oldest Dell (A01) driver, you don't have this problem. However, this one sucks a bit....

What are the disadvantages of the (A01) driver? Maybe it's not worth it, after all, the dimmer is a trivial issue.

sometimes the FN key combination does not work. Try using the Windows Mobility center and see if it brightens up (without restart, that is)
