I have a studio xps 1647 with an i5-430m cpu,ati mobility radeon 4670. Is it possible to upgrade these to an i7-840QM and an ati 5870? Where would suggest I go to purchase these and is the mobo compatible? off hand I don't know what mobo it has. Thanks

i guess the heat will be a big issue for your system.
so i dont think you can upgrade it. at least not to such high specs.

GPU is soldered onto the motherboard, not upgradable without swapping out the motherboard.

You should be able to go to the Clarksfield i7s.

From what I read, not a single S-XPS 16 owner was successful in being able to boot after replacing a dual-core i series mobile processor with a quad-core one.

As for the GPU idea- sounds pretty crazy. In general you don't want to try to put a GPU in a laptop that wasn't ever an option for the laptop.

Hrm maybe some truth to that, the Arrandale processes come with HM55 though theoretically should support all Arrandale/Clarksfield processors while the quad core i7s come with a PM55 chipset.
