less than a year since I bought it for $1500, and I've already had a number of minor, yet unfixed problems:

    -cannot hibernate without freezing
    -strip of touch-buttons become unusable
-strip of touch-buttons don't illuminate, or some do and others don't
    -keypad occasionally sticks during typing
    -touchpad becomes unusable

what bothered me most, however, is last night when I was typing and all of a sudden many of the keypad buttons weren't going through unless I went back and hit them again. moreover was when I went to shutdown for the night, and after everything on the desktop disappeared in preparation for logging off and shutting down, only the wallpaper and mouse stayed up, for a little over five minutes; then the "logging off..." screen appeared, and stayed for over ten minutes, by which time I simply shutdown via pressing the power button. therefore when I started it up again this morning, it displayed the screen saying how an improper shutdown occurred previously, asking how to start. I said "start Windows normally" and so far so good, as usual.

I'm not too technologically savvy, but I'll give some of my laptop's info here in case it'll help.

i had the same issues. they'll need to replace the hinge cover and mother board. i complained and they opted to replace it with a studio 14 or a studio xps 16. it's unacceptable for a top of the line computer to have these problems. I suggest you call them. Good luck.

to hell with that, this was a replacement for my old Acer 5100 which had to have the motherboard fixed for a crapload of $ so I just bought this. thanks for the reply, but I'm not even gonna bother. I guess I'll just go with it til it keels over =\

another thing, if you shut down the computer and then power it back on it may alleviate your issues. Windows 7 also helped mine. But not being able to wake up properly is a major issue along with the touch buttons. good luck.

because the touch buttons are sporadic, restarting the computer typically alleviates the issue but of course only temporary. i never know when it's going to happen, unfortunately. the freezing during hibernation thing just pisses me off, though, so now I only shutdown and put to sleep rather than hibernate.

Well Dell will replace it for free, I'm going to assume you're still on your warranty since you have had it for less than a year..?
