    ...as there is a spare slot does this mean i can buy another of the same graphics card put it in the spare slot and run it in sli mode with the existing one?

    The ExpressCard is not for graphics expansion, you will not be able to SLI with that.

    The M1730 is capable of dual graphics cards. Though this statement is correct, he would be able to buy another Dell 8700M GT and SLI them. No idea why you'd do that though, a single 8800M GTX would be better all around anyway.

    Yes, 2 8700M GTs are better than one. But one 8800M GTX is better than two 8700M GTs. Considering the cost and power consumption of 8700M GTs, it seems silly to me to opt for SLI 8700's over a single 8800.

    he would not be able to add another 8700, the sli cards come as a single unit
    no single 8800 gtx is available for the 1730, just sli 8800 gtx

    the 8800 gtx sli gpu is the best so far, but you need some expertise and be pretty mechanically inclined to tackle replace the cards, and it will void your gpu warranty if you do it yourself
