can you remove/insert the battery while the computer is turned on and running on AC power?
-
Possible, but not really recommended. There's a slight chance of damaging your laptop in the process.

if i run my laptop alot of hours on AC >> is it recommended to remove bettery?
-
On both my Studio XPS 13 and Latitude E6500 i can choose to not charge battery when ac is connected.
That will do the samt trick that removing battery will.. -
I never remove my battery while on AC power. Same practice when I had my m1710. Had that one for almost 2 years and the battery never displayed any signs of wear (i.e. reduced charge capacity, etc.).
Also, I have removed the battery while the unit was plugged in and never had an issue. Show me some documented reason why you shouldn't do this.
Go ahead and leave it in while on AC. Remember, the reason why the battery life time decreases is total discharges and charges. Don't let it discharge 100% before charging. This isn't the same batt tech from 5 years ago. -

are you sure about that? i've read in several articles that lit-ion batteries slowly lose charge over time and heat accelerates the process. The battery does heat up more when on AC power, so it seems like that would make it lose charge faster. Right? -
I swap batteries regularly when plugged in and running (so I can charge up my spare battery). Never had any problem.
My lappies are HP and Thinkpad, but I don't see why Dell should be any different. -
where is the option that you can opt to charge or not charge the battery while connected? is it a software for dell laptops?
removing the battery
