If I run my dell xps m140 laptop computer for about 5 minutes (on the internet), the hard drive will go from 20 C to 35-40C. At around 33C, programs start randomely shutting down (AV, internet browser), and I will go from 60 processes to 40 processes.

I feel air coming out of the fan vents, but I have never cleaned the internal components of the computer.

Do you think that this is probrably dust accumulating in the fan, and if so is there a tutorial on how to open and clean a fan for a dell m140 laptop?

    I have seen this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=60914

but the coponent on the underside of the computer is totally clean. I guess I am looking for cleaning the fan under teh keyboard.

    Thank you very much

What're the rest of your temps?

40C is well within normal operating temperatures for your your hard drive. I'd say you've got some sort of software issue, but what that is exactly I couldn't say. At any rate, you can still try cleaning your fan/vent(s); here is the service manual for the XPS 140M:
