I recently installed Dell's new driver for the nvidia 8600gt
and every twenty seconds or so, my typing will lag.
i was playing css (counter strike source if you didn't know) the other day and i would experience severe hardware lag at least once every minute if not more.
I have always run the card with the best quality settings and have never had a problem.
I'm wondering if this could be caused by the driver update from Dell.
I tried not to long ago to install nvidia's driver instead, but the installer said it couldn't find the video card. I wasn't sure if i had to uninstall the current driver or not, and I didn't have time to find out at that moment.

    and other suggestions or solutions?

    a few specs to help:
    core2 duo processor @ 2.4ghz not overclocked.
    4gigs ram
nvidia 8600gt (running on best quality)
    creative audio option

    thanks in advance

Have you tried rolling back to your previous driver?

Go here and download the newest driver for your operating system
    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers
(you didn't say what you were using), at the same time download the "modded inf" file which is right next to the link to download the driver.

Once you download the driver run the file and it will ask you where to unzip the files, take note of where you unzip it, I recommend creating a folder on your desktop. Once it is unzipped copy the modded inf file into the newly created driver folder replacing the current inf file with the new one.

Next download and install driver sweeper with this link http://downloads.guru3d.com/Guru3D---Driver-Sweeper-(Setup)_d1655.html

Once driver sweeper is installed go into Control Panel > add/remove programs and uninstall the Nvidia drivers found there, when it is done reboot and go into safe mode (i believe you hit F8 when you see the Dell logo on the black background). Once in safemode run driver sweeper, check off Nvidia display and run the cleaner. You can then go into the folder where you extracted the new driver and run setup.exe, follow the directions to install the new driver. Reboot and try CS:S again and see if it runs better.
