i just got a new (well refurbished) m1530 that seems to have keyboard prblems. trie searching on google and i havne't come across anyone with this issue so i'm wondering if i've got a defective keyboard.

i just move from an e1705 tat i though had an excellent keyboard - never had any problems typing on it. now on the m1530, i can definitely tell there's something not quit right. every so often it just won't register a keypress. i've been using it for two weeks now thinking tha maybe it's just a new keyboard and i need t get used to it but the problem is still there. i'm positive i'm hittig te keys.

has anyone else had this issue? do i have a defective keyboard or is it just me? i've had 3 other dell notebooks before the e1705 and never ran acrss an issue like this.

for what it's worth, the typos that are in this message are as a result of me typing on thiskeybard. i'e removed the typos that i believe were me mistyping however, the rest remain. i regard myself as a pretty solid typist. oh, and the captialization thig is just me.

should i just call tech support?

    Hi gtbuzz,
I would definitely contact tech support regarding the issue. That is not normal keyboard behavior. Also, there may still be a diagnostic for the keyboard if you enter the f12 menu. The diagnostic partitions change too fast for us to keep up. But if the keyboard diagnostic is still present, it should be sufficient proof for tech support to replace.

They're just cheap chinese keyboards. Warranty should look after you.

FWIW, my brand new M1530 (not refurb) had an issue where the enter key would not register keystrokes, and sometimes it will just go crazy and throw in a heap of newlines.

It seemed to get better with a bit of use though (maybe just a bit sticky or something at the contacts) but if it continues to be a problem I'll get it replaced.

I have a similar problem. My "I" and "K" keys seem to stop working when the system starts up. They start working after about 5 mins or so after startup. But even after that, I have to sometimes press the keys hard to make them work.

My xps m1530 is about a month old and i noticed this about 2 weeks ago. thinking of calling tech support.

BTW, ran diagnostics, nothing came up.

Wan't to know my experiance with replacing my keyboard with Dell? (XPS M1530, and I didn't really NEED a new keyboard, but I had a flight warp on my spacebar, and I wanted to test out their warranty :).

9pm in Alaska, laying on the couch in my boxers. Open up XPS Chat. Tell the guy my spacebar is a little off. Works ok, but just looks odd. 5 minutes later, a new keyboard "on it's way". I got it 2 days later. And got to keep the old one. So now I have two Keyboard.

So far the XPS warranty is great :)

I have the same problem, but not as bad as the TS. I especially have it on the left side of my keyboard. I wonder if it's just my way of typing (I actually don't touch the aluminium frame while typing) or a bad keyboard.

Is it difficult to replace the keyboard?

i know this thread is old, but is anybody having similar issues?

my xps m1530 recently had problems with the following keys:

    8
    I
    K
    ,
    ]
    =

i've had this laptop since Jan 2008 and have kept it in great condition and no spills.

at first, the problem was that the keys wouldn't register until 5-10 minutes after the system booted (regardless of coming out of sleep or full start up). in addition, sometimes i would either have to press hard or just hold the keys down until it registered. i tried taking out the keyboard, but that didn't fix it either.

just over the weekend, all the keys i mentioned above just stopped working. i can't believe how annoying it was not being able to use those keys, especially the letter "i". i had copy and paste those characters throughout my use searching, going to sites, and chatting w/ an Dell online rep about this issue. it sucked. typing from work with fully functional keyboard feels like a miracle!!

but thankfully i still have warranty and an onsite Dell tech will install a new keyboard. :p

Oish..that's not good! :( Well, it is a good thing indeed that you have the warranty, and onsite will be replacing your keyboard for you!

Have you had Onsite before to your house or work to repair your 1530?? In my opinion they do a good job!

Let us know how it works out for you!

    Cin ;) :)

no, i've never had an onsite tech for my M1530. i've had pretty good experiences with Dell and only had to call for an onsite tech to replace a faulty SB sound card under warranty on my old Dell desktop back in 2000. i'm an IT guy so i've been able to fix and replace things myself. but if i got warranty, why not put it to use?

looking forward to a fully functional keyboard again! i'll let everyone know how it goes.

My thoughts exactly...that's one of the reasons that I am happy to have the warranty in place :D It surely works well, when it needs to :D

    Yes, let us know! ;)
