I was looking around on Dells site and noticed that AW had the new processors and, however nothing on XPS side.

So I took a look at Dell UK and sure enough, it has the newer processors:

Dell XPS 17 Laptop Details | Dell UK

Anyone have any idea when it will be released in the US?

Also, anyone think the GPU will get upgraded in the process?

My guess is the XPS might see them later on once stock has run down. As for GPU, Dell won't upgrade them in the XPS as the XPS is not intended for gaming, the highest non-"gaming" GPUs on the market are already offered depending on the system you get (560m and up are gaming GPUs, and many likely could run on the XPS cooling with a small tweak, but that is why Dell has Alienware...).

Since the first poster said Dell UK has them, your statement can't be correct.

Ok, thats odd. I went to check and now its not listed an as option...thats not a good thing :(

Anyway, both India and Malaysia have them listed (not all models). So hopefully they should be listed soon in the US.

They are coming to the XPS in the US any day now. I just got a Microcenter flier yesterday that had an XPS 15 with the i7-2670 CPU.

    Have you checked?
I have checked and can't find them in Dell UK.

GTX 560m card usually use a MXM slot, neither Alienware use this kind of cards in small laptop like M14x or M11x.
XPS series use GPU solder to motherboard so the best from Nvidia in this case is a GT555m (like M14x).
The power consumption of the GeForce GTX 560M is about 75W,
while GT540m have 45W and GT555m is on 55W and they run enough hot in XPS case.
The solution for me is to use ATI cards like 6750m like Samsung Series 7 Chronos or Mac Book Pro.

Now in US and Canada on XPS 15.

    Two of the choices are:

2nd generation Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM processor 2.20 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.10 GHz [Included in Price]
    2nd generation Intel® Core™ i7-2640M processor 2.80 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.50 GHz [add $100.00 or $3.00/month1]

Is the i7-2640M really an upgrade over the i7-2670QM? It costs $100 to go from a Quad core processor to a dual core?

A faster dual core vs. a slower quad core.

Here are the i7 processors available for configuration for the XPS 15. Can anyone who knows please comment? I know that usually the highest processor is such a high premium upgrade price that it's not worth it, but what about the others? Which are the ones that are worth the price?

I do general web surfing, listen to lossless music files, do office apps, some video editing and a lot of music conversion that is time consuming on my older PC/processor.
