I just got a new xps1530 today (4G DDR2, NVIDIA 8600M GT, Vista SP1 Home Premium) and when I select either sleep or hibernate, it crashes and restarts the computer and I have to restart it in safe mode and then turn it off. I called Dell and they honestly told me that 'yeh thats a problem with vista you can't use sleep or hibernate' and suggested that I just streamline the the start up so it is faster. That seems insane and I do not believe that for a second. I wondered if other 1530 owner experienced similar troubles and had ideas...

    Welcome to the Forums.

Reload it and only put the essential drivers/software back on, Dell standard installs never seem to work quite right.

    Try this: control panel/device manager/network adapters/wireless card/power management/UNCHECK all the boxes.

That should do the trick. It's worked on two computers for me.

Thanks for the help, that does indeed 'fix' it but I got Dell to send me a new (actually was refurbished) Intel wireless N card to replace the Dell version and now I don't have the problem even with the default power management. It was the first time they had heard of this problem (yeah right) and then claimed all draft-N cards might have the same problem.
