Hey whats up I got my m1530 ( 2.ghz and 8600gt 160gb hard drive)and just wanted to give you my thoughts on it. I think the webcams fantastic, really good picture quality and the funny effects are a great laugh with your freinds.

It runs the games I have flawlesly I installed the orange box on it and it can run the half life games and portal with everything on max except AA which is on 8 and mssa on 8 and it can run team fortress 2 on everything max with AA and mssa on 4.

The keyboards pretty good and the touch buttons are really responsive, the fans can get a little noisy but only for a second or two touch pads nice but im using the bluetooth mouse that I got with it.

I did get the samsung screen with it, didn't need to check the manufaturer could tell just by looking at it (probably wouldn't have noticed unless I came on this forum :( ), I tried coping with it but it eventually got on my nerves and I phoned up customer service today, the call lasted an hour with the guy trying to see if it was a sodtware issue I tried to tell him it was the make of the screen but he still thought it was a software problem and told me to do the diagnostic boot thing which lasted over 30 minutes before he gave up and agreed to send me a new screen, I asked for an LG and he said that he would send me one so hopefully that gets sorted out soon, hope the LG is as better as people say it is.

Overall I think the is a brilliant laptop and my only issue is with the screen which will get sorted out in a few days, I would recomend to ayone thinking about buying this laptop to wait untll the screen problems get sorted out.

    The XPS Promise
XPS is built on three principles – absolute performance, superior style and dedicated service. The XPS logo is a promise that you’re getting the very best of Dell, in technology, innovation, performance, design and service.

    Why XPS
With XPS, we aim to satisfy the demanding needs of high-end users – tech enthusiasts, gamers, multimedia creators, etc. – and luxury buyers. XPS means you no longer have to choose between fashion and function, because with XPS you get the best of both worlds – high performance and high style.

    The XPS Experience
XPS is about thinking literally outside the box. Sure, we offer you the latest components to drive your PC needs, but the XPS experience extends beyond hardware. It’s about how you interact with your system, how you use it to entertain and how your relationship with Dell can help you get the most out of your XPS.

In the PC world, XPS is as good as it can get in terms of product, reliablity, warranty service, etc....

Think about it, you spend 1500 bucks and get XPS tech and service.

You call Dell, say your screen is "grainy" and they send you a 500 dollar replacement instantly.

Try that at some of these other companies and then come back and tell us how you feel about Dell!

Is Dell perfect, heck no, but in comparison, they are pretty darn good.

you get what you pay for. i'm sure consumers take advantage of dell as much as dell does the same to us. most people don't mind minor imperfections so i guess it all works out.

    uhm.. $500??

I'd prefer they are more picky on their sources and have better quality control but yes Dell has good service in general.
Not sure how long that will last since XPS is becoming much more mainstream now...

And I doubt the screen costs even a fifth of the $500 number...

They saved $10 off hundreds of thousands of laptops by using crappy quality screens...

I agree. I haven't found the XPS support or build quality to be over any of the other lines. Dell may be spending more money on these things, but like the customers, Dell isn't getting any more for it.

Best I could find was about $440 for a new WSXGA 15.4 LG screen. I bet Dell is paying at least half that for each one. I doubt, like you say, Dell is really saving any money on the Samsung screens. The tech that came to replace my screen said he got paid for each of the 2 times he replaced my screen plus a partial payment for the one Dell sent, but I called and told him just to send it back. So considering 2.5 payments for changing the screen and also whatever cost went into refurbing the first notebook I returned and the complete loss of the shipping each way of the first notebook, I figure I covered the profit off of going with the slightly cheaper screen of say, 10 people. Of course, if only 1 in 100 people do something like this, and the ratio is likely to much greater, then Dell is still coming out ahead. Now I wish I hadn't thought that through. Once upon a time a business stood on quality more than pinching pennies (and customers.) Of course in those days, every customer knew every other customer and if you repeatedly cut corners on a horse shoe you went out of business in short order.

You guys all ***** and moan but never seem to grasp the basics of business. Do you think they mix and match screens just for the fun of it?!

No WAY, that requires multiple business agreements with different companies, which complicates, most any money saved would be lost in the implementation of different kinds of parts in the same model.

Did anyone stop to think that Dell manufactures so many damn computers no one company can handle the LCD demand, therefore dell has to rely on MULTIPLE manufacturers to meet demand?

    Clearly not

So should "stop and think" instead of simply expecting, and requiring, a fair value for what we pay for?

No, you fully have the right to complain about a product that you aren't satisfied with. But after years of talking to people who complain about this and that concerning their computer, I'd like some of the customers to know there are real people and real problems on the other side, the business side.

There are limitations to technology at certain points, and limitations to manufacturing. I'm simply saying, its not some big company out to screw little old you. There is often a very real and very understandable reason.

Very nice, but let's face it, there are limits to what we can expect of products and or services in my industry which is health care.
    Right on

Yeah, let's talk about health care on Martyn's thread. Just kidding, let's not.

ManicMartyn, being that you are manic, you might not aught to get into this, but if you go into Device Manager, and click on the monitor properties there will be a setting called Device Instance ID. The id will have a prefix like SEC (Samsung), LPLF (LG), or AUO (I think, not sure) (AU Optronics). the rest will be the part number with regard to the resolution, and even possibly alternate models per manufacturer.
