Hy, I have a xps m1530 and I want to install mediacenter on it. I read around how to do that . I just wanna ask what advantages has mediacebter 3.3.
Can you see movies avi format and other usual movie formats? I know that music you can listen and dvd movies, but how about avi. You have to install certain codecs? If so can someone explain because I read somewhere but i didn't understand how to do it if is necessary.
I ask this because by installing mediacenter i have to format all my partitions and if it can not play avi movies I would not install it.
PS. I have mediacenter 3.3 for xps 1330, it works for xps 1530?

Not sure what you mean by Mediacenter 3.3, are you referring to Windows Media Center or the Dell MediaDirect?

Either way, you can play any video or dvd movies. Yes you do need codecs, usually xvid for AVI files. Though instead of installing just xvid, installing the KLite Codec Pack will cover all your bases.

    Hope that helps! :)

Installing MediaDirect 3.3 will not require formatting of all partition since Dell changed the way it was deployed so it no longer uses its own partition.

The same MediaDirect for 3.3 works for XPS 1530. :)
