    Congrats on the sexy laptop!

    Concerning the topic: I have the same resolution as you, except on the 15" screen. Most of the time I am fine with the default zoom (and also don't have the screen scaled), though if the text is small and I'm reading a lot of text, I'll sometimes zoom in. This resolution is definitely a big step up from the default resolutions of a few years ago, which can be a bit of a shock when first getting used to it.

    strange, mine was set at 125% out of the box, which I changed.... somehow but I forget how :eek:

    I think it was in the accessibility settings in IE or Windows Control Panel

    1920x1080 is small? I keep cursing the idiots that called 1080 high def and returned us back to 1998 level resolutions just wider.

    I perfer 1200 on a 17" admittedly but if you are not used to a tight resolution it will take some time to get used to just as I found 1080 made me think everything was large and fuzzy.

    to change scaling permanantly right click on desktop, go to screen resolution then make text larger or smaller

    in IE there is a magnifying glass lower right corner in IE8 just adjust it. Chrome dont hold settings. IE 9 its under the view menu somewhere ( alt key to access menu's ). Firefox is ctrl + / ctrl - and should remember where you were. I dont use Safari or Opera

    1920x1080 = 2,073,600 pixels
    1600x1200 = 1,920,000 pixels (I assume this is the resolution you are referring to you when you say 1200)

    So technically, both the number of pixels and pixel density are higher on the 1920x1080 screen as a result of the surface area being smaller (with the difference in aspect ratio when going from 4:3 to 16:9) even when they are both "17 inch" screens, because the 17 inches is the diagonal.

    So, not to be a jerk, but all things being equal (settings in Windows and in the programs) objects will appear to be smaller on a 17" 1920x1080 screen vs a 17" 1600x1200 screen.

    no you are correct in that aspect and I should have been much clearer. the 2 examples you gave would give 118 ppi on the 1600x1200 and 127 on the 1920X1080.

    I said had to adjust for ME as I used to have a 15" 1600x1200 resolution ability and then had to go to 17" 16X10 1200s... see sig and various 1080 screens. I have been used to over 1000 lines of vertical resolution on high end monitors since 1996 and still find it silly of the backwardness of how this HD moniker has reduced screen resolutions and PPI for ease of marketing.

    control and then the plus key or hit alt, menu will come up and then goto view then zoom

    Raise your Windows DPI in Control Panel > Display.
