if you want to sleep at night then return it now before it's too late

I can't return it, I'm getting a screen replacement. I decided I'll keep it for a year and a half then sell it and buy a new one for college.

What is Hibernation File Cleaner, when I go to disk cleanup it hold 1.99GB, can I clean this?
I now have 64.2GB free btw
Oh and also, the connection icon is working again since I powered it up this morning.
Are there any other ways to free up space? For example when I click for properties of C drive, it has an option to compress files. Should I do this?
EDIT: I decided to delete Roxio Creator, I want to get Nero and if I decide I want it again, I have the disc from dell. -
Dont use the windows compression options, it just slows down the system. Hiberbate file cleaner disable the Hibernate option and therefor add 2 gig to C drive, where its stored . do u know what is Hibernate?

Not really, I only use sleep and full power off/on. I clicked the link, I've never used standby or hibernation before, I don't see the purpose. -
If you wanna figure out what files are taking up room on your hard drive, WinDirStat is a good program. Gives you a graphical representation of all the files on your hdd and in pretty colors

82 processes is ridiculous. I keep mine down to about 48 but no more. 82 processes is the reason your computer is running so slowly.
If you wanted to try and figure it out yourself and get rid of the processes you dont need, you could go to start -> run -> type "msconfig" and go to the startup tab and uncheck anything that you may not need. Most of it is obvious to even someone who has never used a computer. -
I think theres something wrong with my laptop. It has been slow and when I started it there was a black tornado like shape at the bottom of the screen then it dissappeared for login screen. I don't know, kinda freaked me out.
Also the touchpad is randomly freezing/going crazy. I don't know if this is because I switched the computer from going to sleep to do nothing when the lid is closed, but it does even when I havent closed the lid.
I'll try looking at the processes now. I have 76 right now and I only have control panel open, no internet connection even. [I'm using a desktop to type this. ] -
Ya, like Southfork said, if your computer's slow soon as you boot it it's probably because you have too much stuff trying to boot at startup. Use the msconfig utility, but be careful. First time I messed with it I accidentally told the system32 folder not to boot (bad idea btw). If you've never messed with it I can tell you right now Adobe Updater, Java, and Openoffice start when your computer does and its unnecessary. You probably have Roxio, Limewire, and perhaps a few Dell Apps that run as well when they don't need to at boot. If ya need some help, take another screenshot of msconfig and I'm sure everyone can help you find out what you don't need.
BTW: Happy New Year All!! -
Wow 82 processes! Actually i shouldn't be surprised since i got my dell 4 days ago and it had about 78. Once I re-installed windows (very simple) used 'Top Windows Vista Tweaks You Can Find' thread in Windows OS and Software forum and blackvipers service settings ( www.blackviper.com) I now have 32 processes running, everything works great and it's super fast.

Here is a portion of msconfig...

Always use services.msc first rather than msconfig.

Yup, I would say that might be the root of your problems. Dunno if you can make a list or anything if you get a chance but you can probably cut the number of items in that list in half, at least. If you want to do it yourself, I find the best way is to look at the item itself and ask yourself if you NEED it to boot when your computer does. Also a good way to tell what an item is is to make the Command section longer and see where it's coming from. But when doing this I can't stress enough, if you don't know what an item is and if it's important don't disable it from starting. If ya need help, google is your friend or post and I'll see what I can do.

What exactly does that do?
Also, I wouldnt really mind reinstalling Vista if I could somehow keep sims 2 so I don't have to reinstall it after. I'd also want to keep my 180 songs and 50 or so pictures.
Yet I'd still worry about messing up installing everything back. -
services.msc when you type it in the run dialogue box under the start menu gives a list of all of the services running in the background under Windows.
Go to www.blackviper.com which tells you which services are safe to disable. -
I will try the blackviper site, I assume I do the "Safe" configurations. Hopefully I don't mess this up :]
Thaks for all the help!
PS: I almost just had a heart attack because the Screen went all black for 5 minutes, but then I remembered I was installing updates. Phew. -
I did the Safe configuration. I also restarted and I definitely notice a difference. I'm hungry for speed now lol, is there anything else I can do to speed this laptop up?
-
Turn on system restore and CREATE A RESTORE POINT, If you do anything wrong just restore back it will take like 2 minutes. (Be careful no to turn off the system restore service by mistake when using the Blackviper guide until you are happy).
-
I'd send it back and get what you want. Don't settle for less.
